Who dies when The Walking Dead returns for season 10?

The Walking Dead never ceases to amaze with its shocking cliffhangers, especially for the midseason finales. And the latest one left many lives hanging in the balance. Who will die when the series returns?

Audiences who’ve kept up with The Walking Dead for the past 10 seasons understand that not every perilous situation is a doomed one. We’ve witnessed several survivors make miraculous escapes at the last moment, so no one is really gone until they’re gone. With that being said, we shouldn’t count Daryl’s group out just yet.

To quickly recap the midseason finale’s conclusion, it ended with Daryl (Norman Reedus) and his small group of soldiers venturing into a dark cave. They initially expected to find Alpha (Samantha Morton) and her Whisperer friends hiding inside but instead landed in an ambush, surrounded by hundreds of walkers.

While the screen cuts to black before we can see what happens, it’s reasonable to assume that not everyone makes it out alive. We don’t expect every member of Daryl’s group to perish but a few of them certainly will, that is unless Gamma (Thora Birch) or Lydia (Cassady McClincy) comes to their rescue.

In all likelihood, there will be some casualties. Daryl and Carol (Melissa McBride) probably aren’t on the chopping block so they’re safe. However, the friends accompanying them won’t be as lucky. Our guess is Jerry (Cooper Andrews), Magna (Nadia Hilker), Connie (Lauren Ridloff), and Aaron (Ross Marquand) will be the suspected casualties.

Depending on how the situation plays out, the characters who die could be different from the ones we expect to. For all we know, it’ll be Kelly (Angel Theory), Carol, and Daryl who ultimately wind up dying in that cave. Then again, the idea of killing Carol off seems rather unlikely. Robert Kirkman’s comments to The Hollywood Reporter back in 2015 being evidence of that claim.

Regardless of who may or may not be on the chopping block, the notion of major characters dying is inevitable. And because of that, fans should be prepared to see some of their favorites meet their ends when the back half of season 10 premieres.
