A list of five good movies and shows to watch on Disney Plus this weekend, including the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, Noelle, and more.

Disney Plus is now live! The streaming service launched on Tuesday, Nov. 12. According to a report from Variety, more than 10 million people signed up for Disney Plus by the end of the first day.

If you’re one of those new subscribers looking for something to watch, check out our list of five new movies and shows to watch on Disney Plus this weekend.

The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian is the hottest new show to watch on Disney Plus. The first episode was released on launch day, and the second episode, titled “Chapter 2,” was added to the streaming service on Friday, Nov. 15.

The series was created by Jon Favreau, and it tells the story of a bounty hunter, played by Pedro Pascal, on a high-level mission. If you’re a Star Wars fan, that should be all you need to know to start watching this series that has an excellent cast.

Pascal stars in the series along with Carl Weathers, Taika Waititi, Gina Carano, Ming-Na Wen, Werner Herzog, Nick Nolte and Giancarlo Esposito.

New episodes of the series will be added to Disney Plus every Friday through Dec. 27! There are eight episodes in the first season. Season 2 is already in the works.

Noelle

Noelle starring Anna Kendrick, Bill Hader and Billy Eichner is now streaming on Disney Plus. It’s the best new movie exclusively released on Disney Plus, and it’s perfect to watch this holiday season.

The film tells the story of the Kringles. After Hader’s character, Nick Kringle, is forced to take over as Santa, things are not going well, and Nick is feeling the pressure heading into Christmas Eve. Noelle, played by Kendrick, suggests Nick take a little time away to de-stress before the big day, but Nick doesn’t plan on coming back. To save Christmas, Noelle is forced to travel to Phoenix to find her brother and bring him back to the North Pole.

This movie reminds me of Elf. It’s not the same, of course, but it has many similar elements, and that’s why I think audiences will love this new Christmas movie.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

If The Mandalorian and Noelle aren’t for you, maybe you’re more interested in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, the most absurdly named program in TV history.

The series is set a decade after the events of the films. In honor of the anniversary, students at East High School decide to put on a musical, and this is the story behind that project.

If you’re a fan of the movies, this is the show for you on Disney Plus this weekend!

Frozen

Frozen, one of the most popular movies of the last decade, is now on Disney Plus, as well! This movie is going to a favorite among those with kids, most likely, especially with the sequel coming soon.

Frozen 2 premieres in theaters on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, so this weekend is a great to re-watch the hit film.

If by chance you haven’t seen it, the movie tells the story about Elsa, a Princess who has major weather-related powers. After she struggles to control them, she flees her city and blankets the town with snow. Anna, Elsa’s sister, sets out a quest to save her sister.

The Santa Clause

With the holidays coming up, we know there are many, many viewers looking for all the holiday programming, and luckily, Disney Plus has a lot of it.

After you watch Noelle this weekend, you should also check out The Santa Clause movies. Tim Allen stars as Scott Calvin, an executive at toy company who has been a bad dad, in general. When Santa falls off Scott’s roof (and dies?), Scott is forced to put on the suit and finish the job on Christmas Eve.

I loved these movies as a kid, and I watch them every Christmas. The first two are much better than the third one, although the third movie has Martin Short.

This list doesn’t even include all the Marvel movies (16 of them!), all the Star Wars movies, and all of the animated Disney classics! If you need more ideas for movies to watch on Netflix this weekend, check out the list of the 30 best movies to watch on Disney Plus!
