Remember what it was like to watch everything weekly and chat about episodes after? The Daybreak writers, cast, and EPs want you to experience it again.

Don’t you just miss watching an episode of a great TV show and chatting to your friends about it the following day? Okay, so you can still do that with cable, but it doesn’t happen as often. Netflix did away with that when it came to binge-watching a full season at once. But the Daybreak writers are encouraging you to change that.

Something that showrunner Aron Eli Coleite mentioned was that he loved how episodes used to be. You could remember a specific episode, have favorites that you would watch over and over again and be able to talk to friends about those specific episodes. He mentioned Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but you could do it with so many other shows.

SupernaturalCharmed, and even Beverly Hills, 90210 followed these weekly formats. Even now, many of the crime and legal dramas stick to that, which is why you don’t tend to see as many of them on Netflix, Amazon, and other streaming services that work as a binge-watch.

Daybreak is an excellent mixture of the Netflix original framework with the individual episode storytelling. You know that episode three was when the narration switched from Josh to Angelica. You know that Wesley’s story was told in episode five. Episode six gave us Turbo’s retelling of the mall fight and his need for revenge.

These episodes stand out in their own right while telling a bigger story. They deliver that ability for the water-cooler chat. And it’s not surprising with that in mind that the Daybreak writers shared that they want to bring that sense of weekly watching back to the mainstream.

Hey, they’re not alone! DC Universe brought back weekly viewing with its streaming service, making us wait a week for TitansDoom Patrol, and more. Disney Plus is doing the same. And while those who love the binge-watch will hate it, there are many others who will love to be able to watch an episode, dissect it in full, theorize some ideas, and then watch the next episode a week later.

The Daybreak crew are doing things a little differently. Starting Monday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET, viewers will be able to watch two episodes per week. They’ll be on Mondays and Wednesdays (one episode on each of the days) and the cast, showrunners, and writers will tweet along with you. This is a chance to get to know more about the reasons behind certain moments, the improv the cast did (especially Greg Kasyan), and what the writers hoped to portray in certain moments.

For the first week, everyone behind the scenes will start hanging out at Instagram from 5:30 p.m. PT. The format and place to hang out with them will change on a weekly basis, but the Daybreak writers are always tweeting so it will be easy to keep up! And to make sure everyone starts at the same time, the writers will share when they hit play so you can too!
