A new photo shared by Entertainment Weekly shows Amenadiel paying our favorite devil a visit in Hell. What could he be down there for?

Spoilers ahead for Lucifer season 5!

As all us Lucifans know, the Lucifer season 4 finale ended with the ruler of Hell making his way back to his kingdom to protect those he loves on Earth. And of course, he did that right after Chloe and Lucifer finally confess their love for each other – yeah, still crying about that.

Now we don’t know how long Lucifer will stay in Hell, or if he’ll go back to Earth. Thanks to a new photo released by Entertainment Weekly, we know he’ll be there at least in the premiere episode.

The new photo shows off Amenadiel looking sharp in a Lucifer-esque suit, paying his brother a visit in a creepy clown room and not looking too happy to be there. We learned in the first season just how much Amenadiel despises Hell because, when Lucifer left the throne, Amenadiel had to take his place for a while.

D.B. Woodside, who plays Amenadiel, shared a tease with EW:

"There has to be something very, very bad happening on Earth for Amenadiel to go down to Hell. There has to be an extremely strong, perhaps an otherworldly reason for him to visit Hell."

Whatever this problem is, it’s big enough that Amenadiel can’t handle it on his own. Woodside believes it has to do with Amenadiel and Linda’s new son, Charlie.

In episode seven of the fourth season, Lucifer and Amenadiel’s sister, Remiel, was sent down to bring the half-angel, half-human baby to the Silver City.

After a fight between the siblings, Amenadiel gets the upper hand and Remiel reluctantly leaves, but not before parting ways with a final warning, “I still fear one day, you’ll come to regret your decision.”

By introducing a half-angel, half-baby – the very first of its kind in all of Lucifer universe – this opens the door for a lot of interesting storylines. It felt like Remiel’s warning was foreshadowing something to come. God and Remiel obviously know about Charlie, and maybe she will be sent back down or another angel from the Silver City will try to take him.

Or maybe other supernatural beings will find out about this new creature and will need him for their own agendas, like when Dromos kidnapped Charlie to raise him to be the new ruler of Hell.

If Charlie’s life is in danger, Amenadiel will need his younger brother’s help.

Another reason could have something to do with Chloe. Throughout the series, Chloe has gotten in the middle of supernatural troubles, even before she knew the truth about it all. She turns out to be the key to these problems like with Pierce’s immortality.

We’ve seen the lengths that not only Lucifer goes to for her, but Amenadiel and Maze as well. If that’s the case, then Amenadiel knows Lucifer would do anything to protect her.

Speaking of Lucifer and Chloe, I’m actually really excited to get more of a look into Hell. It’s the show’s fifth season and we haven’t really seen much of the place yet. .

But I also hope that Lucifer doesn’t stay too long, he needs to get back to his girl! And whatever issue Amenadiel has, hopefully, that’s what gets Lucifer back to Earth. Because please, for the love of Lucifer, can we finally see these two together as a couple?

Why do you think Amenadiel is in Hell? We’re going to be kept on our toes until the show’s final season premieres in 2020, with 16 episodes and split into two parts.

Stay tuned for more news about season 5!
