Grey’s Anatomy is getting complicated as Amelia tells Owen her big secret and Maggie meets her other half.

Grey’s Anatomy was a bit of a whirlwind in last week’s episode and it took viewers for quite the ride. First things first, Amelia finally worked up the courage to tell Owen that she’s pregnant with Link’s baby, which didn’t exactly bode well for Owen’s state of mind, after everything they’ve been through together.

Maggie has a very interesting interaction in this Grey’s Anatomy episode, one that she would have never seen coming. Due to Richard being her father, it means she has a family that she never knew about, including her cousin Sabi (played by Kelly McCreary’s actual sister), who shows with a heart condition. This storyline is definitely the most heartbreaking one of the episode, so brace yourselves!

There were many moments that stood out during “Papa Don’t Preach,” but here are the top five that stood out during this episode of Grey’s Anatomy!

Amelia tells Owen her big secret

Amelia and Owen have had a very tumultuous relationship over the years, and it’s safe to say, they’ve been through it all. Which is why Owen is mind-blown to learn that she is pregnant with Link’s baby. When he wanted to have a baby with her, she didn’t want any. Of course, this was in large part due to the brain tumor she had, but it doesn’t mean that it hurts any less.

Throughout the episode, Owen grows increasingly resentful towards Amelia, until a fight breaks out between them. Luckily, they come to an understanding after talking through the situation, and realize they have a very, very interesting family dynamic, and will have to learn to navigate through it.

Maggie meets the family she never knew

Speaking of family dynamics, Maggie has an interesting one of her own as Richard and Ellis Grey’s daughter. This means she suddenly has a family she’s never known about on both sides. While she’s close to Meredith, she hasn’t really met Richard’s side of the family until this episode.

Ironically enough, Kelly McCreary, who plays Maggie, is joined by her real-life sister, Crystal McCreary in this episode as Maggie’s cousin, Sabi. Pretty neat, right?

The two hit it off and although Sabi is way more enthusiastic, it seems to just the thing Maggie needs after everything she’s been through.

A surgery gone wrong

When Richard’s brother and his daughter Sabi show up to see him, they reveal that Sabi has a heart condition. Maggie being the genius surgeon she is, wants to operate on her despite Sabi and her uncle’s hesitance. But given that she’s the expert in her field, there really is no one else that can help Sabi in the same way.

Unfortunately for Maggie, Sabi dies on the table. It’s a heartbreaking moment for Maggie, who not only forced the surgery on her cousin but had just started to connect with her new family.

Owen’s pregnant patient

Owen has a difficult patient in this episode, and it proves to be rather jarring for him because she’s a pregnant woman who tried to do a self-abortion at home by throwing herself down the stairs. It’s a very complicated feeling and it brings up some mixed feelings for Owen after hearing Amelia is pregnant.

He brings Amelia in to help with the patient, but it ends up backfiring when Amelia supports the woman’s decision to abort the baby. And ultimately that is the decision this patient makes, but getting to that point was a rough one to get to given Owen’s resentment towards Amelia for being pregnant.

Richard’s awkward love triangle

Richard and Catherine have drifted apart a lot during the course of season 16, and with more time that passes, it’s becoming obvious that Richard may be tempted to stray away. Enter, Gemma. Gemma is someone that has her eyes on Richard and has already made some moves which Richard immediately rejected.

But that hasn’t stopped Gemma from continuing to try anyway. Luckily, Catherine is back in the picture and when she spots Gemma trying to move in on her man, she does something about it. But something tells me, this love triangle is far from over and trouble lies ahead.
