Christmas 2019: Where to stream National Lampoon Christmas Vacation

The holiday season is here with Christmas right around the corner which includes my all-time favorite family movie, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Where can you stream this popular Christmas movie?

This 1989 movie, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, is based on the short story written by John Hughes titled “Christmas 59” and is the third installment of National Lampoon’s vacation movies. Christmas Vacation is also absolutely hilarious and a must-watch for the holidays. We watch this movie every year and it is a great Christmas family movie.

The movie centers around the Griswold family and most specifically the patriarch Clark Griswold played by Chevy Chase. Clark wants this year’s family Christmas to be perfect, including hanging the Christmas decorations on the house down to the Christmas Tree in the living room. His parents and his in-laws are spending the holidays at his house, so he is ensuring that everything will be perfect for their arrival.

Unfortunately, that’s what makes this movie funny. As it normally happens in the best well-laid plans, everything goes wrong. The lights won’t turn on, Clark gets locked in the attic, his great-aunt gift wraps her cat and his company decides not to do Christmas bonuses this year. Christmas Vacation is a relatable movie.

We’ve all have had Christmases with family that didn’t go quite as planned and things always went wrong. Granted, I never had a relative gift-wrap her cat before, but there are situations in Christmas Vacation that I have had happen. The decorative lights not working or members of my family not getting along and unexpected guests showing up.

In the movie, poor Clark deals with everything going wrong at the same time and how he deals with those mishaps is what endears him and the movie to the viewers. It’s what makes it the most perfect holiday movie because, in the end, it comes down to family. That’s the message of Christmas Vacation: Christmas is all about family.

Unfortunately, it isn’t streaming on Netflix but it is streaming on YouTube, Amazon Prime, iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu. However, as popular as this movie is, I wouldn’t rule the big streaming channels out as we inch closer to Christmas.

Even if it doesn’t stream Christmas Vacation, Netflix has dozens of fantastic Christmas movies streaming that you can choose from to watch with your family. Let us know in the comment section below what you plan to watch this Christmas.
