A mix of new characters in Riverdale season 4 bring another layer of suspicion to the mystery. Here’s who we definitely can’t trust.

You’re probably thinking, “Only five characters we shouldn’t trust on Riverdale?!” And you’re right: There’s an endless supply of untrustworthy characters orbiting around the town. Some of them are even dead or off-screen, and we should still worry about how they could come back to haunt the limited number of characters we do trust.

But the fourth season has introduced a handful of new characters that are both stirring the pot and stoking an energy of skepticism. Currently, none of these characters have done anything particularly Big Bad worthy, by Black Hood standards, but they have each exhibited actions that left our suspicions standing on edge. Simply, these five Riverdale season 4 characters can’t be trusted.

(WARNING: Light spoilers from the latest episodes of Riverdale ahead.)

1. Charles

When Charles arrived at the end of season 3 as the FBI agent half-brother of Betty and Jughead, working with Alice to take down The Farm from the inside, they accepted him without asking questions.

Finally, Betty’s woken up to the cloud of uncertainty that surrounds Charles. Why is he still in Riverdale? What does he do? He may not be Chic levels of crazy, but there’s something not right with Charles, and it has nothing to do with the serial killer genes he claims to have. He’s targeting and taunting Betty for a reason. We don’t trust him for a second.

2. Hermosa Lodge

Hello, Hermosa Lodge! No one knew you existed.

During the proceedings for Hiram and Hermione’s trials, Veronica’s stunned to discover that she’s the lucky recipient of a long-lost half-sibling of her own. Hermosa, a self-described private investigator and apparent season 1 Veronica lookalike, drops in from Miami to help spring Hiram from behind bars — and she’s successful.

From bugging La Bonne Nuit to making power moves Veronica didn’t see for a mile, she sure has Hiram’s blood coursing through her veins. Veronica better sleep with one eye open.

3. Mr. Honey

One of two new authority figures, the new principal of Riverdale High has already made an enemy out of Cheryl Blossom, which is a rookie mistake. Mr. Honey continued his intimidation streak by teaching Reggie an aggressive lesson about vandalizing his office. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to glean Mr. Honey’s super-obvious sketchy behavior and assign it to any number of strange goings on around town, namely the videotapes popping up on doorsteps.

We’ve barely scratched the surface of Mr. Honey’s weirdness, but he’s nonetheless not to be trusted.

4. Mr. Chipping

When we first met Mr. Chipping, Jughead’s new teacher at Stonewall Prep, he seemed nice enough. An initial reading of Mr. Chipping leaves him a non-threat given his disarming kindness that’s uncharacteristic of a Riverdale guest character.

But don’t let this handsome prep school teacher pull the wool over your eyes. His nonchalance over Jughead getting drugged and locked in a coffin by his fellow classmates and uncouth hunger to stoke competition between his students shouldn’t sit well with anyone. He probably knows more than he’s letting on about those disappearances…

5. Forsythe the First

We haven’t even met Jughead’s missing-in-action grandfather, and we already know he’s bad news. Riverdale offered more information about Forsythe the First, including the facts that he sent Jughead his favorite book series (which Mr. Chipping writes as the latest ghostwriter!), and he left letters for Jug inside that FP ultimately ripped out.

Even though FP denounces his father, Jughead’s intrigued by his time and reputation at Stonewall Prep. But deep down in our hearts, we know Forsythe with show up with secrets about the student disappearances that will lead to Jug going missing.

What do you think of these characters? Sound off in the comments!

Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
