The End of the F***ing World: Will there be a season 3?
By Madison Sago
The End of the F***ing World creator Charlie Covell shares that the show will not be returning for a third season.
The second season of The End of the F***ing World premiered on Netflix on November 5 and answered many fans’ questions and fears that were raised at the end of season 1.
Honestly, I was really nervous about season 2 and I wasn’t too sure what to expect from it or how to feel about it. However, that all changed right from the first episode. I was completely drawn in and the introduction of a new character really shook things up for Alyssa and James (make sure you also check out our review of the second season!).
The show was adapted from a graphic novel written by Charles Forsman and originally aired in the UK on Channel 4. The first season of the show had been praised by critics and fans alike for staying true to the novel and many enjoyed the ambiguity of that crazy cliffhanger ending.
Charlie Corvell, writer and creator of the adapted series, also shared how she felt “pressured” ahead of season 2’s production and release. Considering how popular the first season was and how there were some qualms about a second season, I can understand. However, it seems like she was excited about what was in store for season 2.
Corvell also shared that there won’t be a third season. In an interview with Radio Times, she said how she liked how it ended in season 2 and how it would be “wrong” to put any more out.
In fact, she even shared her views on the second season with Radio Times:
"“Put it this way, if for some reason we hadn’t been allowed to do season two, I would have been really gutted. Which I think shows that it was the right thing to do – for me, anyway. And I think I like where we end it [in season two], and yeah, it feels right for the story.“But you never know, and you obviously you can’t write for what people want,” she adds. “I think you have to work out what’s right for the characters and the story— I sound like such a d*** saying that but I think you can’t, you’re not doing fan fiction.”"
I think this pretty much confirms that Corvell is satisfied with two seasons and I have to say I agree. The second season was a nice expanse for Alyssa and James’ story and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Season 2 introduced so many new challenges for Alyssa and James and really showed just how Alyssa’s life was impacted by that day at Clive Koch’s house and how she’s been living that day over and over again in her head. It was also a nice ending for our lead characters. It wasn’t perfect, but it was the most fitting end that this pair could have.
In the end, it turns out that there won’t be any more The End of the F***ing World and I’m totally okay with that.
