The Walking Dead: Biggest moments from season 10, episode 5
By Paul Zuniga
Negan’s escape in last week’s episode of The Walking Dead was the biggest surprise of the season yet. Of course, this week’s had more than its fair share of shockers as well. Continue reading for our highlight reel of season 10, episode 5.
On last night’s episode of The Walking Dead, we got to see where Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) wound up after escaping Alexandria’s prison. He wasn’t hiding out in a nearby residence as many fans expected him to be, Negan actually ran away from all the action to adventure into the woods.
In addition to Negan’s trek, the episode also lent some time to the Whisperers. They’ve been plotting a complete takeover of Alexandria and Hilltop, and now they’re preparing for a final strike. Unfortunately for them, a wild-card just fell into their laps and the Skins’ plans may forever be altered because of it.

Negan and Beta Showdown
We were going to save the best for last but the cliffhanger teasing a confrontation between Negan and Alpha’s number two has us on our seats. Their upcoming fight is a highly-anticipated one because of the comic precedent. Negan didn’t kill Beta in the comics, but since the TV adaptation has deviated slightly from the graphic novels, we shouldn’t rule out Beta meeting his demise earlier than expected.
Gamma and Alpha plot
Towards the episode’s end, Gamma (Thora Birch) approaches her leader to confess that she accepted help from Aaron (Ross Marquand). Alpha (Samantha Morton) isn’t upset, nor does she punish Gamma for breaking the rules. Instead, she says it’s a good opportunity to wear a different mask.
For clarity, Alpha likely wasn’t being literal about the masks. What she meant was that Gamma should use the guise of innocence to get closer to Aaron. That way, they can infiltrate the communities once again to gain the upper hand.
Negan isn’t a bad guy anymore
On the way to the Whisperers’ border, Negan comes across a mother and son who are struggling to survive. Most fans would expect him to leave these survivors behind, but instead, he decides to take them back to Hilltop on the condition that they do not reveal who led them there.
Sadly, Negan’s overzealous companion misconstrues a message and then goes about killing the recently discovered family. Negan is furious when he realizes what transpired, and then justifiably, bashes the deranged fellow’s brains in.
Magna and Yumiko problems
The two women appeared to be working through relationship problems in the previous episode, ending with them reconciling to some degree. However, things came to a breaking point for the couple in episode 5.
To sum up the situation quickly, Yumiko has become tired of Magna’s delusional mindset. Magna consistently makes unfounded assumptions about the looks in her lover’s eyes and then projects her own insecurities upon Yumiko. The latter won’t tolerate the mind games anymore so she asks Magna to leave, potentially ending their relationship for good.
Daryl and Connie sparks
It’s pretty obvious that sparks are flying between Daryl and Connie. They’ve been tiptoeing around the fact that they like each other, though it appears Connie has taken the first step.
During a small chat in sign language, Daryl uses the hand-sign for “family” to convey his understanding of how Connie feels about Kelly’s recent actions. She sighs in relief and then performs a few signs which essentially ask Daryl if she and he can be family. Daryl doesn’t say anything in response or sign again but he smiles as he rides off. Does this mean he’ll make a move next?
