The Witcher: Netflix shares release date and new trailer for the series

Netflix shared the trailer and official release date of The Witcher starring Henry Cavill, Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra.

The highly anticipated Netflix original series The Witcher is coming to Netflix on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019. Netflix just announced the release date for the new series and unveiled the official trailer.

This is the first we’ve seen of the series since the teaser trailer was released at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.

The Witcher series is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy stories and the characters from those stories. The series will consist of 8 episodes and will follow the trials and tribulations of Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill.

Geralt is a witcher, which is a person who at a very young age develops supernatural powers to help him hunt and kill all sorts of monsters on the Continent.

That trailer looks awesome! Fantasy fans have high hopes for this series, and that trailer should not disappoint.

Netflix has also announced the full cast for the series. Henry Cavill, who starred as Superman in the DC Movies, who will be portraying Geralt of Rivia. Cavill is joined by Freya Allan, who stars as Princess Ciri, and Anya Chalotra, who stars as Yennefer, the sorceress, in the lead roles.

According to Netflix, Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, Tom Canton, Earnon Farren, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, and Adam Levy also star in the series.

There’s no doubt The Witcher is one of the most anticipated shows of the year. With the void left by Game of Thrones in the fantasy genre, this shows is perfectly timed. It should be one of the biggest Netflix shows ever.

While Sapkowski’s novels were adapted for the video game franchise of the same name, the show will follow the books more closely than the video games. Sure, there will still be some elements of the games in the books since they are based on the same stories, but showrunner Lauren Hissrich said the show does not follow the video games.

Netflix Life and other media outlets interviewed Hissrich, Chalotra and Allan at SDCC 2019.

Stay tuned for more news about The Witcher. I don’t think this will be the last we see and hear about this sure-to-be hit series from Netflix.
