The first of every month always happens to be the most jam-packed day for new releases on Netflix, and since the first happens to land on a Friday in November, it’s even more chock full of big releases and premieres. On top of the usual downpour of new throwback movies to add to your watch list, this month brings a small handful of original content premieres, such as a new season of a fan=favorite series, a new holiday movie and the debut of the historical drama film The King.
Based on a number of plays in William Shakespeare’s “Henriad,” The King stars Timothée Chalamet as Hal, a wayward prince who’s reluctant to inherit the throne. He’s unfazed by the royal lifestyle and has instead lived his life among the common folk. But after his father dies, Hal becomes crowned King Henry V and suddenly finds himself begrudgingly wading through the chaos of politics and war that was passed down to him, a world he wasn’t expecting to return to.
The King comes from director David Michôd, who also helmed such films as Animal Kingdom, The Rover and War Machine. The film featured Brad Pitt as an executive producer. The King first made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September 2019 and was again screened at the BFI London Film Festival in October.
The film received a limited theatrical release on Oct. 11 ahead of its worldwide streaming premiere at the top of November. Don’t miss your chance to check out what’s sure to be one of the most talked-about films of awards season.
