Every year, television viewers look forward to watching the holiday episodes of their favorite shows, and even rewatch all of their favorite episodes, like the classic Friends Thanksgiving shows and The O.C.’s ode to Chrismukkah. But what if an entire series took place during the holidays? This Thanksgiving, Netflix unveils Merry Happy Whatever, a seemingly first of its kind comedy series that’s centered in the chaos of the Christmas holiday. It’s an entire series of holiday episodes.

Dennis Quaid stars in Merry Happy Whatever as Don Quinn, a headstrong father of a close-knit family attempting to keep the holiday spirit high for his quirky family. In the midst of the Christmas stress, the Quinn family tries to take each other in stride. However, when Don’s daughter Emmy (Bridgit Mendler) comes home for the holiday from Los Angeles with a starving artist-musician boyfriend Matt (Brett Morin) in tow. Although they butt heads, the series features heartwarming humor about the unpredictable and unconditional nature of the gift of family.

Merry Happy Whatever comes from creator Tucker Cawley, who has written for such television series as A Million Little Things, Up All Night, Parks and Recreation and Everybody Loves Raymond, for which he won three Emmy Awards. The dark comedy series has been envisioned as a potential anthology series, with additional seasons centering around other holidays. But it would be interesting for the series to take place completely at Christmastime.

Whatever the future may hold for Merry Happy Whatever, make sure to check out the first season’s eight episodes when they begin streaming on Thanksgiving.
