You know it, you love it, you can’t get enough of it. Grease returns to Netflix this month as the single best throwback of all the new release movies. It’s always thrilling when the streamer adds more throwbacks to its ranks, especially during this time of the year. There’s nothing better in than having a movie marathon full of familiar, favorite comfort movies with the whole family when the temperatures start to drop. This November, get back into one of the most famous movie musicals.
Based on the Broadway play of the same name, Grease takes place at Rydell High School in the 1950s as greaser Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) unexpectedly reunite at the same school after a summer fling at the beach. As they reignite their flame at school, Danny and Sandy realize their differences and face criticism from their clique. Against all odds, they sing and dance their way to a happy ending.
Upon release, Grease earned critical and commercial success, grabbing positive reception from critics and audiences and becoming the highest-grossing musical film of all time (at the time). In 1982, Grease 2 was released but didn’t star the original cast and failed to replicate the same success. The film has been adapted into a live television special, and will soon receive a prequel called Summer Loving and an HBO Max spin-off series Rydell High.
Before the Grease comes back in full swing, check out the original classic on Netflix at the top of November.
