8. Marriage Story

Who’s in it: Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson, Laura Dern, Alan Alda, Ray Liotta, Julie Hagerty, Merritt Ever

Why put it on your list: Sometimes marriages don’t work out the way we want. Romances are tales with a happy ending, but what happens after the happy ending? Does it remain like that? This is something Marriage Story will deliver on that storyline.

Driver and Johansson are a stage director and actress struggling to keep their marriage going. But sometimes it just can’t work. Their personal and creative differences lead to a coast-to-coast divorce, and the trailer gives just a hint of what to expect.

The story will touch on some real emotions. In fact, the promo already gives you a hint of the feelings that you’ll go through during the movie. It may even trigger some of your own feelings for exes or even current struggling marriages.

Marriage Story comes from the heart. Writer and director Noah Baumbach shared that it came from real life. He takes elements of his own divorce and elements of friends’ divorces to create a tale that hits it just right. We get a story that involves friends, friends of friends, lawyers, mediators, and more to ensure this is a tale that feels real and focuses on everything possible during a heartbreaking divorce.

And that’s the reason you need to get ready for the movie. Marriage Story will be released in limited theaters on Nov. 6 before being available on Netflix on Dec. 6. There isn’t too long to wait just yet.
