It comes as no surprise to hear that Freeform has canceled Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger after two seasons. The silver lining, however, is that there may be a future for Tandy and Tyrone yet.

Considering everything that’s happened with Marvel’s Cloak And Dagger, it would make any fan a bit concerned about their favorite characters’ futures. The recent cancellation isn’t a good thing per se, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Tandy (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph) are gone either, especially when the two heroes are slated for a crossover with Hulu’s Runaways series later this year.

Marvel sent out an announcement video back in August which confirmed the event was happening. An official trailer for Runaways season 3 then gave us our first-look at Cloak and Dagger in action. Their appearance in the clip is brief, but it’s clear Nico’s meddling in other worlds has caught the attention of Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson for one reason or another.

What’s peculiar is that Cloak And Dagger’s stars are only scheduled for a single crossover episode. The reason it’s strange is that a 43-minute timespan doesn’t sound like it would give them enough time to wrap up their story-arc. We also need to consider that all 43-minutes can’t be devoted solely to Tandy and Tyrone, they have to share the screen with their Runaway comrades.

Because of that factor, it’s safe to assume Cloak and Dagger will stick around for more episodes. And if that claim turns out to be true, C&D’s stars could wind up becoming mainstays on the Hulu Original in the long run.

At the same time, there’s also a chance their comrades will make the move as well. Mayhem (Emma Lahana), specifically, played a major role in Season 2 of Marvel’s Cloak And Dagger and she’s one of the characters we want to see again.

Mayhem/Brigid also landed in a very ambiguous position as the latter agreed to let her superhuman counterpart take the wheel in the Season 2 Finale. Said change didn’t result in Brigid being erased, she’s merely allowing Mayhem to live a life of her own. They wound up merging to some degree and the new Mayhem could go just about anywhere, which brings us to Los Angeles and the Runaways’ corner of the Marvel universe.

In addition to an extended collaboration between these two superhero teams, fans also need to be open to the possibility of Hulu reviving Cloak and Dagger. Freeform opted not to renew the Marvel series but the streaming service may become its new home. That is assuming Disney doesn’t have other plans for Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson in mind.

Marvel’s Runaways Season 3 will begin streaming on Dec. 13, 2019. A premiere date for the crossover episode is TBA.
