Billy: Joe Ingles
The NBA, in my opinion, lacks a good villain at the moment. Everyone seems to get along for the most part, and while that makes an enjoyable product to watch, it’s hard to match a current player who is hated and loved as much as Billy.
We’re going to match the two Aussies for this one. Billy is very clearly a bad dude, although we learned more about his reasons for being the way he is in season 3. Ingles is a very bad man, although it’s he’s a little under the radar. He doesn’t look the villain part like Billy, but he can shoot it and get buckets with the best of them. He also doesn’t back down to anyone in the league.
Jonathan: Andre Iguodala
Andre Iguodala is the ultimate glue guy, and that’s exactly what Jonathan is to Stranger Things. He’s not necessarily the leader, but he’s always there to pick up the pieces. Who knows what would have happened if Iguodala doesn’t go off in the 2015 Finals? Who knows what would have happened to Eleven if Jonathan did open up Eleven’s leg and help get the chunk of the monster out?
We need more Jonathans and Iguodalas in the world.
Nancy: CJ McCollum
I had a really hard time with this match, too. Clearly, there’s one NBA player who will have a career in journalism after their playing days, and that’s CJ McCollum of the Portland Trail Blazers. McCollum has a Journalism degree from Lehigh. There’s one reporter that matters in Stranger Things, and that’s why this match works.
Steve: Draymond Green
Steve and Draymond Green have some similarities. At the beginning of the series, there was no character more loathsome than Steve. I’d bet there are many NBA fans don’t have great feelings about Draymond Green and his antics.
Both characters are in roles of power among their groups, although they might lack certain reasonable qualifications for their jobs. Green is the best do-everything NBA player, as well as a leader, and that’s sort of how I feel about Steve for his role within the Scoops Troop.
No doubt Robin is more qualified to lead the team. Even Dustin and Erika are probably more responsible, but there’s just something about Steve that makes him irreplaceable, and that’s exactly how Draymond Green is in the NBA.
I have no idea which NBA player to match with Robin. There’s only one Robin, to me, and she’s the scorekeeper
Grigori: Steven Adams
I love this match! If there was an NBA player that looks like they could also be doubling as an assassin with possible super-strength, it’s Steven Adams. He just looks like he could break you in half with his bare hands.
Alexei: Klay Thompson
I don’t really have a good reason for this except everybody loves Klay Thompson just like everyone loves Alexei. I don’t think anybody has a bad word to say about either of them.
