Erika: Kyrie Irving

I feel really good about this match, too. There are few young people who have supreme self-confidence, and Erika Sinclair and Kyrie Irving are definitely two of those people. Erika’s capitalism speech in season 3 reminded me a lot of the way Irving interacts with the media.

There are also a few parallels between Erika ragging on nerds for like two seasons and then realizing she was, in fact, a nerd and Irving’s time with the Boston Celtics.

Dustin: James Harden

Finding Dustin a match was a little bit tough because he’s so unique, but I think this one checks out. Like Dustin, James Harden is one of the most unique players in the NBA. From his look to his game, there isn’t anyone like him, and that’s equally true about Dustin.

In Stranger Things, Dustin is the most innovative character in the show. The way he problem solves and finds ways to get things done and make plans is very similar to the way Harden uses innovation to make his game better. Have you seen the one-legged, step-back 3?

Mike: Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard is one of the most respected leaders in the NBA. In fact, he was just voted as the best leader in the NBA among NBA GMs, according to Yahoo. That’s high praise.

I don’t think there’s any doubt who the best leader is in Stranger Things. In the first season, he trusts his gut to help Eleven, and it leads to them being able to save Will. In Stranger Things 3, he is the only one who is really concerned about Eleven’s health. While he’s not perfect, as we saw with his disregard for Will and Dustin in season 3, he wants to make sure everyone is okay, and that’s the mark of a real leader.

Will: Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Leonard was absent from the NBA  for a while, just like Will Byers was in the first season of Stranger Things. After returning from his absence, Leonard delivered an MVP performance and led the Toronto Raptors to their first NBA Championship.

After returning from the Upside Down, Will wowed audience around the world with an MVP performance in Stranger Things 2. Seriously, Noah Schnapp killed it in Stranger Things 2. If Schnapp doesn’t deliver an unbelievable performance, we never fully understand the menace that is the Mind Flayer. It was perfect.

Leonard is now in LA playing for the Clippers, and Will Byers and his family are, well, somewhere new, too, after Stranger Things 3.

Max: Russell Westbrook

I had a hard time with this one, too, but I think I figured it out. Max and Russell Westbrook have a lot of similarities, especially when it comes to their style and attitude. They also seem like they don’t always fit in, at times, but there’s no doubt how much they’d do for their friends/team.

Joyce: Chris Paul

I love this match so much. While Paul sometimes displays Joyce Byers-level hysterics on the court, Paul seems to care as much about winning as Joyce cared about finding Will and finding an answer to the magnets falling off her fridge. And, both were forced to move house this summer.
