Last night’s episode of The Walking Dead saw Alexandria’s residents fend off wave after wave of walkers. Everyone assumed it was Alpha sending her horde but perhaps there’s another explanation.

The season 10 premiere of The Walking Dead foreshadowed a coming war between Alexandria’s militia and the Whisperer army with both sides making preparations. Though, another party has seemingly thrown a wrench into the fight.

In “Ghosts”, Alexandria’s survivors slay waves of zombies headed directly towards their home. They slash away for practically two days in a row, becoming terribly exhausted by the routine. Residents begin to suspect that the Whisperers are trying to overwhelm them, but Michonne (Danai Gurira) brings up an interesting point.

During one of the small breaks between waves, Michonne mentions that if Alpha (Samantha Morton) were to send her horde to Alexandria, they’d be wiped out instantaneously. The waves bombarding them didn’t even come close to the WMD that Alpha has at her disposal. With that being known, there’s a good chance another group of survivors is trying to push Alexandria’s residents out of their home.

The walkers who were led to Alexandria didn’t have any Whisperers directing them so there’s more proof of someone else being responsible. Alpha supposedly kept true to her word so waging a small invasion would be out of character for her. The question is: Who else could have a grudge against Alexandria?

Who could be attacking Alexandria and Hilltop?

While no one specific comes to mind, a new group could be introduced. Perhaps the Commonwealth is behind the mysterious attacks. They’ll factor into either season 10 or season 11 evidenced by Paola Lazaro’s casting as Princess, according to THR. She’s not a major character in the comics but she does accompany an expedition to the Commonwealth’s settlement.

Furthermore, the Commonwealth’s appearance seems like a guarantee at this point. They may or may not show up in the next few episodes, though we shouldn’t rule them out as the perpetrators responsible for attacking Alexandria with walkers.

It is worth mentioning that next week’s episode “Silence The Whisperers” will see Hilltop fend off waves of undead, too. Glimpses at their struggles in the promo are evidence of this. There’s no telling if Hilltop’s residents will be as successful as Alexandria but the people responsible are bound to show themselves at some point in the episode.

Who do you think could be attacking Alexandria and the allied communities? Let us know in the comments.
