Riverdale season 4: Jughead’s grandpa will be introduced soon
By Bryce Olin
Forsythe Pendleton Jones I, also known as Jughead’s grandpa, will be introduced in the Riverdale season 4 midseason finale.
Riverdale fans have been speculating about Jughead’s grandpa, Forsythe Pendleton Jones I, since the second episode of season 4. Thankfully, we get to meet FP Jones I in Riverdale season 4!
According to a report from Decider, Timothy Webber is joining the cast of Riverdale season 4 as Forsythe Pendleton Jones I. For those keeping track at home, that means he is the father of FP and the grandfather of Jughead and Jellybean.
As far as I know, we had not heard much about FP I in Riverdale so far. I’m sure FP mentioned him at some point in the series, but until now, we had no reason to climb up the Jones family tree.
In “Fast Times at Riverdale High,” Jughead accepts the offer from Mr. Chipping, played by Sam Witwer, to join the prestigious Stonewall Prep and leave Riverdale High for senior year. FP, then, tells Jughead that FP I also attended Stonewall Prep, but he dropped out after a few months. We don’t know why, but I’m sure it will pop back up in the new season.
According to the report, we will learn more about FP I until he’s officially introduced in the midseason finale. That will be episode 9, and it will likely air in early to mid-December.
Interestingly, the casting announcement shared the news that Jughead’s grandpa is a “hermit” with a drinking problem, and Jughead seeks him out with questions, according to the report.
This casting announcement does spoil a big secret about Jughead’s grandpa, who was believed to be dead. As it appears, FP I is not dead, and he is, in fact, very alive, probably living somewhere nearby. Could it be in Greendale?
As the report mentions, the casting announcement also reveals information about someone called the Baxter Brothers. So far, I don’t think we’ve ever met anyone with the last name Baxter. Perhaps, it will be a new character from Stonewall Prep?
Decider also points out that Greendale’s high school from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is called “Baxter High,” but I don’t know if there’s any more than coincidence there. On the other hand, this is Riverdale and there are no coincidences.
I’m really interested to see where this storyline goes. Clearly, it has something to do with these flashforwards. We’ve already seen Jughead absent when his friends are covered in blood and burning Jughead’s hat. We also saw that Jughead is missing from the flashfoward at the end of episode 2.
There’s a lot yet to be seen, but this is definitely the storyline to watch as this season moves forward.
Are you excited to meet Jughead’s grandpa later this season?
