Stranger Things 3 is officially the most-watched Netflix original series during its opening month. Almost 65 million households streamed the new season in July 2019.

Netflix just shared their Q3 numbers in a letter to investors. In the letter, Netflix confirmed Stranger Things 3 was the most-watched Netflix original of all time in the first month of the show’s release.

According to the letter, Stranger Things 3 was watched by more than 64 million households in July. The series premiered on Fourth of July weekend. Netflix had previously announced more than 40 million households watched the new season over the opening weekend, which, again, broke the record for the most-watched series over its opening weekend.

These numbers are staggering, but they’re not necessarily surprising. We all know Stranger Things is one of the most popular shows on TV right now. I’m willing to bet it’s the most popular show of the year, other than Game of Thrones. And, I’m anticipating Stranger Things 4 will be even more popular than the third season whenever it premieres. The show is, clearly, still growing in popularity around the globe.

It should be noted that Netflix isn’t saying 64 million people watched the show in July. In fact, it’s probably much more than that. It’s simply saying that 64 million Netflix accounts watched the show in its opening month.

With multiple people in one family watching the show, password sharing, and friends and family watching together, I’d guess there are at least three or four times that many people who watched Stranger Things 3. That guess is probably on the low side, too.

After a slow start to the year for subscriber growth, it looks like Netflix’s Q3 got things turned around with Stranger Things 3. You know there are some subscribers signing up for Netflix to watch a few things, including the new season of Stranger Things 3, and then moving on until the new season comes out.

Netflix added 6.8 million subscribers in Q3. That was a little under what they forecast for growth during the quarter, according to the letter to investors. But, it’s a good sign moving forward.

We still don’t know when exactly to expect Stranger Things 4. It looks like production might have started on the new season. A few fans posted on Reddit that they saw what looked to be a Stranger Things crew in Georgia filming earlier this month. That has not been confirmed by Netflix or any cast or crew.

We’ll let you know more about the new season when we find out. Based on these numbers, it’s going to be another massive hit!
