Stranger Things 4 rumors: The new season has started filming
By Bryce Olin
According to a Reddit user, Stranger Things 4 has started filming in Rome, Georgia. Netflix and Stranger Things have not confirmed the start of production.
It looks like Stranger Things 4 has started filming!
According to Reddit user u/ChihuahuawithBoombox, production crews for Stranger Things 4 were spotted in Rome, Georgia, in early October. The user added a few photos to the Reddit thread, and it looks Hopper’s Blazer in the photos, minus the police lights and decals.
Earlier this summer, it was reported by multiple outlets that Stranger Things 4 would start production in October 2019. Netflix has not officially confirmed that information. For Stranger Things 3, Netflix shared a video from the table read announcing the start of production.
That could still happen for Stranger Things 4, so stay tuned for more information there.
Of course, Netflix and Stranger Things have not confirmed that production on Stranger Things 4 has started yet. It’s possible they are just filming promotional stuff for the new season. It’s also possible they haven’t started filming at all.
Usually, the cast and crew will post a few photos or videos online to announce the start of production. We haven’t seen anything like that from any of the Stranger Things cast.
Entering into this discussion online, you’ll find Marvel’s Black Widow is also being filmed in and around this area, as well, so it’s possible that these cars and this production team is associated with that film or another production entirely. That car does look quite familiar to Stranger Things fans, though.
In a recent interview with Elle, Millie Bobby Brown mentioned that she was telling people that they were filming Stranger Things 4 next year (2020) even before it was officially renewed for season 4.
Here’s what she told Elle:
"“You know what the funny thing is? I was walking around saying, “Oh yeah, season 4? We’re filming it next year. Yeah, yeah. And then I realized, Oh, we haven’t even confirmed it!” I looked at my Instagram [and saw the announcement], and I was like, “Well would you look at that.” None of us really knew that it was not actually [announced]. We were like, “Oh okay, we shouldn’t have said that.” So now I’m keeping my mouth shut on all things Stranger Things.”"
That’s interesting, especially paired with the rumors from Stranger Con, which took place in Chicago on Oct. 5-6.
According to tweets from fans, they heard Stranger Things 4 would start filming in New Mexico in January. Again, we don’t know if that’s true or not, and we have no way to verify that information.
It does make sense why Stranger Things 4 would be filming in multiple locations. Eleven and the Byers left Hawkins at the end of Stranger Things 3. There’s a chance they could be on their way to Kansas, based on the Stranger Things 4 renewal announcement and the “We’re not in Hawkins anymore” teaser.
New Mexico could easily pass for Kansas or another midwest or southern location, so that seems possible.
Again, it seems like there’s a lot of conflicting information out there about the new season. As of right now, there’s a lot of secrecy about Stranger Things 4, too, as I’m sure you can tell. Clearly, that is likely to protect the secret about Hopper’s fate. Because the show is so big, I’m sure it’s also to stop overzealous fans from trying to crash filming locations for a glimpse at these stars.
If Stranger Things 4 has started production, and that remains unclear, it doesn’t affect the release date much. We’re still anticipating a late 2020 or 2021 release date for the season.
