Riverdale season 4, episode 2, “Chapter Fifty-Nine: Fast Times at Riverdale High,” is set on the first day of senior year for Archie, Jughead, Veronica and Betty and co.

It’s officially senior year for many of the main characters in Riverdale! The second episode of season 4, titled, “Chapter Fifty-Nine: Fast Times at Riverdale High,” is set on the first day of senior year, according to The CW’s official synopsis of the episode.

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, that means there will be a small time jump from the season premiere, the tribute to Luke Perry. The season premiere was, obviously, set over the Fourth of July weekend, so the series is jumping about two months forward for the second episode of the season.

In fact, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told EW that the second episode takes place in September, and that means we’re going back to school!

Here is the synopsis of the episode, via The CW:

"FIRST DAY OF SENIOR YEAR — Archie (KJ Apa) encourages Mad Dog (Eli Goree) to attend Riverdale High and join the football team. Jughead (Cole Sprouse) meets Mr. Chipping (guest star Sam Witwer), who offers him a spot at an elite school called Stonewall Prep. Veronica (Camila Mendes) is conflicted when information about her involvement in Hiram’s (Mark Consuelos) arrest leaks to the public. Kevin (Casey Cott) applies for a spot on the Blue & Gold to make amends with Betty (Lili Reinhart). And Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) goes head to head with Mr. Honey (guest star Kerr Smith), the school’s new principal."

There’s a number of new and new-ish characters involved with this episode. From the looks of things, Mad God is joining the Bulldog football squad. If there’s a better football player in this world, I won’t believe it. Mad Dog is going to be the dude.

Sam Witwer and Kerr Smith are also joining the cast for episode 2. Witwer plays Mr. Chipping, a teacher at the new prep school Jughead will be attending this season. Of course, we know that means Jughead won’t be at Riverdale High this year. Bummer!

Smith, on the other hand, plays Principal Honey, who takes over for Weatherbee, who is still missing with the rest of the Farmies.

More from Riverdale

I’m excited to see what goes down in season 4. At San Diego Comic Con, the talk was all about the show getting back to that season 1 feel and focusing on the high school storylines with it being senior year and all that. I think that’s a great direction to take the show back to after two crazy seasons.

Sure, season 4 is going to be wild, still, but if they can go with more shocking high school storylines and less serial killers and organ harvesters, I think it’ll be better for the show, overall.

We’re also going to get a little more on that shocking flashforward scene from the season 3 finale. According to the EW report, Aguirre-Sacasa also hinted that there will be flashforwards that have something to do with the new that flashforward from the season finale. We know it won’t reveal all just yet, but it’s especially exciting that we’re going to see the buildup to it all in the next few weeks.

Stay tuned for more news for Riverdale season 4!
