The Last Kingdom season 4 wraps filming, coming to Netflix in 2020

The Last Kingdom season 4 is done filming! The show announced the news over the weekend, and now we have to wait until 2020 to see the new season.

The Last Kingdom has wrapped production on season 4. Netflix announced the news via The Last Kingdom’s social media accounts, and we shared a video message from the cast and crew below.

The Last Kingdom season 3, the show’s first as a Netflix original series, premiered on the streaming service in November 2018. So, there’s going to be a pretty big gap between new season 3 and season 4.

That’s to be expected. Netflix is well known for their commitment to take a little bit longer than the standard gap (one year) between new seasons of a show. With The Last Kingdom, there are so many moving parts, so it makes sense why it takes so long to film a full season of this series.

Season 4 started production in April. At that time, Netflix announced the new season would be released on the streaming service in 2020.

We still don’t know when exactly to expect the new season. Typically, it takes about one year from the start of production until the season is ready to go because of the time it takes to edit and properly promote the new season.

With that, we’re expecting The Last Kingdom season 4 to be released on the streaming service in the spring of 2020. Stay tuned for the official release date early next year.

As far as historical fiction shows go, The Last Kingdom remains the best of the genre on Netflix. If you haven’t seen this show, we highly, highly recommend it. While some compare the show to Game of Thrones, I wouldn’t go that far, but there are definitely similarities between the two shows that fans of GoT should enjoy.
