22. A Bug’s Life

Have you ever wondered what it was like to be a bug? If so, A Bug’s Life is definitely a movie you want to check out. It begins in an ant colony which is forced to give some of their food over to a gang of grasshoppers led by a bug named Hopper (no relation to the police chief). But this time, Flik, one of the ants, knocks the offering into a stream. Enraged, Hopper demands they get their food, and Flik’s colony exiles him. It’s tough to be a bug, apparently.

Now on his own, Flik mistakes a group of circus bugs for the warriors he’s looking for and agrees to take them back to Ant Island. It isn’t until they get there that Flik realizes his mistake, but he persuades them to act like warriors.

He also forms a plan to create a bird to scare off Hopper. Unfortunately, his plan is revealed and he’s once again exiled by the ants. Flik really can’t catch a break.

The ants offer up what they can to Hopper but it’s not enough to please him, so he takes over the island and demands they give him what they need for winter. He also plans to assassinate the Ant Queen. One of Flik’s friends hears this plan and goes after Flik for help.

After multiple failures and Flik getting beaten up, he and his friends are finally able to lure Hopper to a bird’s nest to be eaten.

Since most Disney/Pixar films come with some sort of lesson, so does this one. A Bug’s Life is about working hard, standing up for what’s right, and friendship. It’s incredibly cute and if you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely not one you want to miss.
