6. Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens
The first film of the new series of Star Wars films will also be available on Disney Plus. The Force Awakens starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Adam Driver starts thirty years after The Return of the Jedi and the First Order has risen to power and wants to eliminate the New Republic. But The Resistance, led by General Leia Organa, is there to try to stop them.
The movie follows three major characters, Rey, an orphan living on Jakku as a scavenger just trying to get by, Finn, a former stormtrooper who’s running from his past, and Kylo Ren, the villain of the film who happens to be Han Solo and Leia’s son who turned to the Dark Side.
All these stories converge when Finn, looking for the lost droid, BB-8, ends up in Jakku and runs into Rey and BB-8, but the First Order tracks them down. Fleeing to a safe place to hide, they end up in the Millennium Falcon and fly away.
But the Falcon is soon captured by a larger ship that happens to be piloted by Han Solo and Chewbaca. They all team up and travel to a Resistance hideout. While there, they look at the map to where Luke Skywalker is supposedly at that was hidden in BB-8 and notice a piece is missing.
And they aren’t all safe for long. Rey ends up kidnapped by Kylo Ren and he takes her to his base. What he doesn’t realize is that she can use the Force and is able to resist his mind-reading capabilities.
Kylo then pursues Rey and Finn in the woods where they have an epic battle with Rey using a lightsaber and the Force to come out on top.
Whether you’re a Star Wars purist or you just think the films are fun to watch, The Force Awakens is brilliant. The action, the relationships, the humor, and seeing old characters in action again all make it one of the best Star Wars films of the franchise.
