Not only was the series one of the biggest sensations and an awards magnet, but it certainly helped launch Netflix as a binge-watching destination as we know it. Finally, the series that took the world by storm returns in a follow-up movie that’s surely going to leave fans of Breaking Bad breathless. El Camino makes its highly anticipated premiere this month.
Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan conceptualized the idea for El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie around the time the landmark series came to its close in 2013. Gilligan approached Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, about starring in El Camino in 2017. Filming commenced secretly (there’s no other way for a Breaking Bad movie) in November 2018, but El Camino wasn’t confirmed until late this summer. The film picks up with Jesse in the aftermath of the series finale, “Felina,” in which he escapes his neo-Nazi captors thanks to Walter White (Bryan Cranston).
As expected, details about El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie are scarce. Only a handful of co-stars have been announced, though Gilligan has hinted at the returns of other stars from the Emmy-winning series. El Camino will first premiere on Netflix on Oct. 11 and will simultaneously hit theaters for a limited run that weekend, with planned airings on AMC still to be announced. There’s still time to sneak in one last marathon of Breaking Bad before watching the movie event of fall. mark your calendars for Jesse Pinkman’s comeback in El Camino this October.
