After months and months of binge-worthy series, it feels as though it’s been a long while since there was a good, hard-hitting docuseries on Netflix. Surely, there are handfuls of docuseries streaming right now, but that one that the whole world watches and talks about? Living Undocumented, the new documentary series premiering at the top of the month, could very well be the one open minds, ignite conversations and influence positive change.

From executive producer Selena Gomez, Living Undocumented offers an inside look at eight undocumented, immigrant families living in the United States. Each family accepted the risk of allowing camera crews document their daily lives as the faced the very real threat of deportation. The goal of the docuseries is to offer a glimpse into what it’s like for undocumented families to pursue the American dream amid such great struggles and to humanize those who have been demonized by the United States’ immigration system.

Living Undocumented comes from Emmy Award-winning executive producers Aaron Saidman and Eli Holzman as well as executive producer Selena Gomez, who also produces Netflix’s controversial original series 13 Reasons Why. Gomez continues to take conversation-starting strides behind the camera, this time championing a cause she has publicly spoken out about and shining a light on important stories that need to be told. Don’t miss the six episodes of the illuminating first season of Living Undocumented when it premieres on Oct. 2.
