Some of the scariest horror movies aren’t the ones with creepy imagery or unexpected jump scares. They’re the ones that prey on reality and make you think about what you would do in certain situations. Another upcoming Netflix original movie leans into the horror sphere with a psychological twist and a theme of survival. Oh, and it all starts with a snake. If that isn’t a recipe for a cover-your-eyes horror movie, then what is? Rattlesnake is a new release to look for this October.

Rattlesnake follows single mother Katrina (Carmen Ejogo), who’s traveling across the country in search of a new life with her young daughter Clara (Apollonia Pratt). However, their car breaks down in the least opportune location in the desert. Clara wanders around, leading to a bit by a venomous rattlesnake. But a mysterious woman performs a miracle and heals Clara, wand the woman forces Katrina to kill a stranger in exchange for saving Clara’s life.

Obviously, Katrina isn’t crazy about the idea of killing an innocent stranger, thus prompting her moral dilemma of deciphering who deserves to die and who deserves to live. She must make her choice before Clara’s life is put in danger again. Rattlesnake comes from director Zak Hilditch, who also directed 1922 and These Final Hours, and boasts an excellent cast of actors you’ll recognize. Get ready for a psychological horror film that’ll rattle you to your core on Oct. 25.
