3. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Genre: Action/Adventure

Release Year: 1981

The ultimate adventure film, Raiders of the Lost Ark (or, as it’s known now, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) is an instant classic. Starring Harrison Ford, directed by Steven Spielberg (and a story from George Lucas and Philip Kaufman), the film follows an archeologist (played by Ford) as he is tasked with finding the fabled Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis do.

Its set pieces are some of the most memorable in movie history, from the boulder scene opening it all, to the bar fight in Nepal, to the street fight in Cairo, to the massive (and completely dangerous) truck chase scene.

But it’s also in how completely likeable each and every character is. Ford as Indiana Jones is a fun, commanding presence, able to take on each threat with some cleverness and absolute charm while still maintaining the academic allure that Indy’s side career has.

The movie also stars Karen Allen, Paul Freeman, Denholm Elliott and John Rhys-Davies.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark is a classic action movie that must be seen, and thankfully Netflix has it ready for you! And thankfully, there’s always Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade to follow up with.
