NBC has released details of its upcoming streaming service. One of those is a revival of Saved By the Bell with two original stars.

It’s been the year of reboots and revivals, and it looks like 2020 is no different. Of course, some revivals are more exciting than others, and that’s certainly the case for Saved By the Bell. The revival will be on the upcoming NBC streaming service, called Peacock, and will feature two original cast members.

Which two, I hear you asking. Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley will reprise their roles of A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Saved By the Bell revival will pick up in the future with the two playing parents of kids at Bayside High. So, it sounds like the future sees the two still together.

Saved By the Bell‘s revival will be set with the California governor (Zack Morris of all people) closing down some of the poorest performing schools. The children, who are mostly from the lower-class, will move to upper-class schools, including Bayview High. The children already at the schools will soon learn that they live in a privileged bubble.

Could Jessie and A.C. realize that they’ve raised their children in a privileged bubble? Considering A.J.’s background, that would seem a little off. Raised as an army brat, he felt like an outsider when he first came to Bayside High and has seen the world thanks to his parents.

What about the other original cast members? Mark-Paul Gosselaar recently signed on to star in the black-ish spin-off, mixed-ish, so he may be out for the time being. Tiffani Thiessen is currently in Netflix’s Alexa & Katie, so again, may be out for now. That doesn’t mean they’ll never return. Both did appear in a revival of sorts recently with Dennis Haskins to reprise their roles of Zack, Kelly, and Mr. Belding respectively.

Lark Voorhies hasn’t acted since 2012 and Dustin Diamond has been in and out of courtrooms, last acting in 2017. These are the least two likely actors to return for the revival.

Little is known about the Saved By the Bell revival just yet, except that it gained a straight-to-series order for the new NBC streaming service. On Sept. 17, NBC announced the streamer would be called Peacock and will be released in April 2020. With any luck, the original episodes will also be available.
