2. What if the Skrulls actually invaded and posed as important heroes?
The Captain Marvel movie from earlier this year explored the Skrulls’ storyline slightly but surprised fans everywhere with the reveal of them being victims. It turns out they were subjugated by the Kree and wiped out of extinction, with the exception of Talos and his family. But what if the shapeshifting aliens actually invaded the planet?
There’s been speculation surrounding characters who fans suspected of being Skrulls, though no character has been exposed so far. Only Talos impersonated Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and a few other humans in Captain Marvel which means it’s not likely that any others are on Earth. But what if a subgroup is waiting for the right moment to attack?
In that scenario, we could see Princess Veranke or another Skrull lead a Secret Invasion on Earth’s Mightiest heroes. Veranke and her alien army were the ones who first infiltrated the Avengers in the comics, causing discourse among the superhero team. A villainous sect of Skrulls haven’t been introduced yet to the MCU, though a look at them on the What If? series could tease their possible appearance in Captain Marvel 2.
1. What if Wanda stopped Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War?
The last proposal for an episode of Marvel’s What If? up for consideration revolves around Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and her role in Avengers: Infinity War.
During the film’s final act, Wanda is forced to destroy the Mind Stone embedded in Vision’s head. She succeeds and Thanos’ goal is seemingly halted by its’ removal. Unfortunately, the Mad Titan utilizes the Time Stone to set back the clock before Wanda destroys the stone. It allows Thanos to complete the Infinity Gauntlet but what if the stone’s destruction was permanent?
The notion of Wanda bringing an abrupt halt to Thanos’ vision would’ve been infuriating to him. He could use the other Infinity Stones to reshape life one planet at a time, it’s just that Wanda’s interference would hinder his ability to do so on a universal scale. And such a roadblock is likely to make Thanos unhinged.
It’s worth mentioning that taking the Mind Stone out of the picture probably would’ve given Thor the opportunity he needed to execute Thanos, too. The Mad Titan only returned home because his goal was completed. Had the situation been any different, an extended fight between Thanos and Thor would’ve eventually concluded with the villain’s death.
