8. What if Thor went for the head?

Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) made a point of blaming himself for not killing Thanos when he had the chance in Avengers: Infinity War, but what if he did? What if Thor actually sliced Thanos’ head off before he performed the initial snap?

The biggest takeaway from this alternate scenario is that the Infinity Stones would remain active in the Prime universe. They’d, of course, stay in their respective places but the fight over who should have Earth’s stones could feasibly become a major debate amongst warring factions.

In the scenario of Infinity War ending with a version of the Infinity Watch being formed, governments around the world would’ve undoubtedly fought over the stones’ ownership. The United Nations didn’t trust the Avengers to operate on their own, why would they trust the superhero team with artifacts capable of destroying the planet?

Avengers: Endgame actually gave us a glimpse at SHIELD trying to gather all the Infinity Stones when Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford) strong-armed Tony into giving up the Tesseract. Imagine what would happen if they learned four other stones were on Earth.

7. What If Iron Man lifted Thor’s Hammer in Endgame?

The climactic battle of Avengers: Endgame was kicked off by Steve Rogers picking up Mjolnir to fight Thanos one-one-one but what if Tony Stark had picked up the hammer rather than his comrade?

By the time the Avengers arrived to fight Thanos in 2023, Tony Stark was a much different person than the character introduced to us in 2008’s Iron Man. One might even say his adventures between then and Endgame made him worthy of Thor’s hammer. He wasn’t able to lift it in Avengers: Age of Ultron but perhaps the circumstances were different in Endgame.

If Tony had been deemed worthy, he probably would’ve destroyed Thanos in mere seconds. Tony Stark was already equipped with a high-tech Iron Man armor, having the God of Thunder’s power would’ve made him unstoppable. All it’d take is one charge from a bolt of lightning and a blast from Stark’s arc reactor to vaporize the Mad Titan, bringing the fight to a swift end.
