If you need a new movie to watch on Netflix for Friday the 13th, check out the horror movie The Ritual starring Rafe Spall.
Today is not only Friday the 13th but also a full moon. What better way to spend the haunting day, then by watching a horror movie and who better than one Netflix has picked. So, tonight turn the lights off and with a good friend watch The Ritual.
Obviously, we would have picked Friday the 13th as the movie to watch on Netflix for Friday the 13th, but unfortunately, the film is not on Netflix. So, we’ll go with The Ritual.
Based on the novel by Adam Nevill, the film is about four college friends reuniting six months after the tragic death of their friend, Rob. Rob had been killed in botched robbery. Unfortunately, they interrupted a robbery in progress, and before Luke could intervene on his behalf, Rob was killed. In honor of Rob’s memory, Phil, Hutch, Luke and Dom hike “Kings Trail,” a 105.3-kilometer trail near Abisko, Norrbotten, Sweden.
After doing a brief memorial on the trail to their friend Rob, our heroes resume their hike. Suddenly, Dom falls and injures his leg, which affects his ability to walk. Hutch determines that if they take the forest trail leading through the woods, that would shave off half their time.
It is when they start following the forest trail, that things take an ominous turn. Entering, the woods they hear no animal or bird sounds, and when they come upon a gutted elk in a tree. Hints of things to come.

The Ritual is directed by David Bruckner and stars Rafe Spall (Luke), Arsher Ali (Phil), Robert James-Collier (Hutch), and Sam Troughton (Dom). It is a refreshing break from the more recent slasher horror films.
Released on Friday the 13th in 2017, it is a perfect movie to honor today, because it is truly scary, without the blood and guts. The setting is perfect with the pitch-black darkness of a forest filled with tall trees that block out all light. Glimpses of some creature flitting in the darkness, ominous sounds, and mysterious runes carved in the trees.
I love horror movies, and I tend to know how the movie plays out, but with this movie, the story unravels so slowly, and I had no idea what was going to happen next. You are drawn into the movie wondering what it is that is stalking our heroes and the ritual keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. The suspense is what makes a great horror movie and this one has that in spades.
