Netflix releases intriguing first look at Daybreak, plus the release date

Zombies are certainly in fashion with recent TV shows on primetime and streaming. Netflix’s upcoming series is Daybreak and here’s an intriguing first look.

Netflix’s zombie apocalypse series, Daybreak, is heading our way in October. To mark the release date, the streamer has offered an interesting look at what to expect in the series.

We don’t have a trailer just yet, but there are some images from the series. You’ll immediately get a Mad Max meets High School Musical vibe just looking through the four stills. Hopefully, a trailer will come soon, ready for the Oct. 24 release date.

This is not what I was expecting when I first read about the series heading to Netflix. One thing I will say, though, is that considering the characters are in high school, the costumes are likely realistic. The high schoolers aren’t exactly going to just forget about their fashion choices just because a zombie apocalypse is upon them, right?

Okay, some would, but not all of them. If a zombie apocalypse ever happened when I was in high school, I’d be able to tell who would remain fashion conscious throughout it all!

But I digress. The Daybreak stills certainly set the tone. This is going to be for those who enjoy Mad Max and don’t mind the high schooler main cast. There will be some adults dotting around, but the main cast is mainly made up of teenagers and young adults, including Colin Ford, Sophie Simnett, and Alyvia Alyn Lind.

Daybreak is described as a post-apocalyptic, genre-bending series. Set in Glendale, California, jocks, games, and many other tribes fight to survive after a nuclear blast happened on Homecoming night. What is it with Homecoming and drama?

While there’s certainly the Mad Max feel to the images, there’s also a coming-of-age storyline told within the Battle Royale and samurai saga setup. I also get a sense of The 100 at certain points in the images.

For those who will be at New York Comic-Con 2019, there’s a chance to see the first episode before everyone else. The panel and screening takes place on Friday, Oct. 4 at 6:45 p.m. local time in Room 1A06.
