A fan theory suggests Stranger Things 4 will premiere on April 4. That’s probably not going to happen, as production starts this fall.

If fan theories are to be believed, the next season of Stranger Things will arrive in the spring, although it’s unclear which spring.

According to a report from Seventeen, there’s a new Stranger Things fan theory on Reddit that suggests April 3 will be the release date for Stranger Things 4.

The theory, which was posted on Reddit by bloodylollipops, notes the numerous “403” and “3” references in Stranger Things 3. Mrs. Dricoll’s hospital room is room 403, while there’s also an interesting drawing that Will made that shows a prisoner with the number “403” on his chest.

So, could the release date really be April 3?

Unfortunately, there’s just no way the season would be ready for April 2020. The show hasn’t started production on season 4, and that’s scheduled to start sometime this fall if recent reports are to be believed. Netflix has not officially renewed the series for season 4 yet, at least publicly, and they have not confirmed the start of production this fall.

Unless they filmed season 4 while they were filming season 3, there’s virtually no chance the season is ready to be released by this spring. It’s just not going to happen for a variety of reasons, production length being one of them.

There’s been a lot of chatter about Stranger Things 4 being filmed along with Stranger Things 3, and while it’s easy to point to the long break between seasons as evidence, the cast wasn’t filming Stranger Things 3 for all that much of the break between seasons. Filming started at the end of April 2018 and ended in November 2018.

That’s a long time, for sure, but it’s not that long when you consider how much bigger the production was for Stranger Things 3. In the new season, the action pieces were bigger. There was a whole Fourth of July Fun Fair that needed to be created. There were a lot of things going on this season, and so I don’t think there’s much substance to the claims that the seasons were filmed together.

For reference, Stranger Things 2 started filming in November 2016 and wrapped in June 2017. It was released on Netflix in October 2017. So, it takes a long time to film these seasons. There are so many moving pieces and regulations, especially working with younger actors.

More from Stranger Things

If the fan theory is correct and the new season is coming in April, unfortunately, that will likely be in April 2021. There will be a nearly two-year gap between season 3 and 4.

I think there’s a good chance we could get a spring season for Stranger Things 4. There’s a lot of evidence that points to a certain event in the spring of 1986 that could be tied into this series, but I can pretty much guarantee that the new season will not be released on April 3, 2021.

And, that’s because that date happens to be a Saturday. When’s the last time Netflix released a new original series on a Saturday? I don’t think it’s ever happened yet. Netflix almost always releases new shows on Thursdays or Fridays. I don’t think Netflix would release their biggest show ever on a Saturday. It just doesn’t line up at this point.

Obviously, there is some relevance to the “403” that keeps popping up in the series. I don’t think that it’s the release date for season 4, though.
