Lucifer season 5 has officially started filming! Netflix and the Lucifer cast shared pictures and videos from the table read and set on the first day of production.

Production on Lucifer season 5 is now officially underway!

According to posts on social media from Netflix and the cast and crew of the hit now-Netflix original series, the cast and creative team did the table read for the first episode of Lucifer season 5, titled “Really Sad Devil Guy,” on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The cast and crew starting filming the season premiere on Friday, Sept. 6.

Unfortunately, this is the last first day of filming for the cast and crew, as pointed out by star Lesley-Ann Brandt on social media. Lucifer season 5 is the final season of the hit series. Netflix saved the show after Fox canceled the series and brought it back for two more seasons. The fourth season consists of 10 episodes, while the final season will consist of 16 episodes.

Originally, Netflix only ordered 10 episodes for season 5, but after a short time, they changed course and ordered an additional six episodes, which brings the total to 16 episodes for the final season.

Although we haven’t heard the word from Netflix, it seems likely the fifth and final season will be split into two, eight-episode parts. Netflix does not usually release 16-episode seasons of their new shows. In fact, I don’t think they have done that yet, and I don’t see the streaming network starting that trend now.

They have, however, split the final season of their original shows into two parts, like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and I’m thinking that’s what will happen with Lucifer season 5, as well.

Assuming they do split the season into two parts, we can probably expect to see the first half of the season on Netflix in the spring or summer 2020. The rest of the episodes could, then, be released in early 2021 or even a little bit later, like spring or summer 2021. That’s my best guess for the Lucifer season 5 release date right now.

Aside from Stranger Things 3, I don’t remember a season of a Netflix show as highly anticipated as Lucifer season 5. The first season on Netflix for the series was a massive success. The show was one of the most-watched shows on any platform for two months, basically, after the season premiere in May.

With a much larger audience watching the show on Netflix, this season could go down as one of the most-watched Netflix seasons ever. We’ll have to wait and see, of course, but I don’t think this show will get less popular after a great fourth season.
