Grace and Frankie renewed for seventh and final season at Netflix

Grace and Frankie is coming back for season 7 at Netflix. Unfortunately, that will be the final season of the series starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda.

The end is coming for Grace and Frankie, sadly. Netflix just announced a few interesting bits of information about the show’s future. First of all, Grace and Frankie season 6 is coming to Netflix in January 2020.

That’s big news, but the biggest news is that Grace and Frankie has been renewed for season 7 and it will be the final season of the Netflix original series.

When the show starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda comes to an end, which will likely be sometime in 2021 or 2022, it will be the longest-running Netflix original series with 94 episodes, according to the tweets. That’s an incredible achievement for this great comedy.

Some simple math will reveal an interesting part of this renewal announcement. Every season of Grace and Frankie so far has been 13 episodes, and season 6 will also be 13 episodes. After season 6 premieres in January 2020, there will have been 78 episodes of the series.

That means the final season will be 16 episodes if the show is going to end with 94 episodes, right? Netflix has never, and probably will never, release 16 episodes of an original series at one time. I have a feeling this will lead to Netflix splitting the final season into two parts. I don’t know for sure what will happen, but it’s what they should do to stretch out the final season of this great series a little bit longer.

That means we might not see the end of Grace and Frankie until late 2021 or 2022. That should be good news for fans of the series!

Grace and Frankie going out as the longest-running Netflix series is such a big accomplishment. This show remains one of the most popular shows on Netflix since it premiered in 2015. I don’t know if we’ll ever see another Netflix show last this long. Most Netflix shows don’t make it past the third season, and it’s becoming increasingly more common that Netflix ends shows after one of its first three or four seasons.

Most credit House of Cards and Orange is the New Black for the shows that helped Netflix start developing their own content. Grace and Frankie is that show for Netflix’s comedy lineup. The show has few weaknesses, and it’s gotten better, I think, as it’s gone on.
