It’s been five years since Cameron Diaz’s last big-screen role in Annie, and her retirement from acting persists. The Golden Globe-nominated movie star dipped out of the Hollywood game after starring in a string of hit films but just before things started to get good again. Look, we don’t want to pressure Diaz out of retirement, but all it could take is a juicy role in a Ryan Murphy Netflix series to lure her back to the screen. Just saying! It worked for her pal Gwyneth Paltrow. At any rate, one of Diaz’s best movies, My Sister’s Keeper, comes to Netflix this month.

Based on the novel of the same name by Jodi Picoult, My Sister’s Keeper stars Academy Award nominee Abigail as Anna Fitzgerald, a young girl who was conceived as a bone marrow donor for her sister, Kate (Sofia Vassilieva). She’s undergone multiple surgeries throughout her life to help prolong that of her sister’s, but the decision Anna’s parents made begins to wear on the foundation of their family beyond repair. Finally, Anna chooses to sue her parents for emancipation in an attempt to reclaim her life, and it threatens the future of their family forever.

My Sister’s Keeper comes from director Nick Cassavetes, who also helmed such films as John Q., The Notebook, Alpha Dog, and The Other Woman, which also starred Cameron Diaz in one of her final film roles before her retirement from acting. The film holds a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes but was a moderate box office hit with a worldwide gross of over $95 million. My Sister’s Keeper remains a solid tear-jerker 10 years after its original release in theaters, and it’s one of the best new Netflix movies coming in September that you should add to your watch list.
