FX’s Legion wrapped up its’ final season not too long ago but the end seemingly rebooted the universe. Could a soft reboot of the Marvel series be developed?

In the series finale of FX’s Legion, David Haller (Dan Stevens) and Charles Xavier (Harry Lloyd) faced down Amahl Farouk (Navid Negahban) for the last time. The telepathic duo went into battle with the intent of killing both versions of the Shadow King but came to a compromise in the end.

Warning! Spoilers for the series finale of FX’s Legion follow.

During the climax of Chapter 27, Farouk of the Present Day stops fighting. He bargains with Charles and convinces his younger self to choose another path — one that doesn’t involve inhabiting David’s mind. This changes the course of events, giving everyone a second chance at life.

Once the fight is over, the clock rewinds to the day Charles returned home to Gabrielle Haller (Stephanie Corneliussen) and a baby David. He originally didn’t but now that the bargain with Farouk has been struck, Charles can return to living peacefully with his wife and child.

The series itself ends with a final look at the baby David as his future lies ahead of him, which could go in any number of directions. It’s unclear how David’s life will turn out and most of us kind of expected to see a glimpse at the new David in some form.

Unfortunately, the series finale lacks any flashforwards to the alternate world created by David and Charles Xavier changing history. The silver lining to this is that Legion could be rebooted now that the clock has been reset. Noah Hawley has said the story is over but what’s to say a soft reboot of the story can’t happen further down the line.

While Hawley might be staunchly against the idea of rebooting his show, a new chapter in David Haller’s story would be rather interesting. Plus, the origins of Legion’s main cast are already established. They’d be slightly different in the alternate world but fans have a good idea of who these characters are based on the first three seasons.

The difference between Legion’s past seasons and a reboot is David will be in the position to become a member of the X-Men rather than a psychotic mental patient. Charles Xavier has yet to found the school or consider assembling a team of mutants, but now that the future seems brighter, he’ll more than likely take up the mantle of Professor X at some point.

David, being a mighty telepath, will be a prime candidate for Professor X’s team. He won’t force his son into the action and it might not even be necessary. Since David is the kind of person who’ll want to be a hero, accepting a spot on the X-Men is ideally something we can expect of him.

On top of assembling the X-Men in a soft reboot, Charles Xavier recruiting mutants could potentially reunite David with Sydney (Rachel Keller). She was important to the David of the past and Charles will more than likely keep a watchful eye out for Sydney after she’s born. And once she begins experiencing problems with her mutant abilities, Charles can reach out and help.

Such an action would alter the trajectory of Sydney’s life, preventing her from winding up in a mental hospital as she did previously. Syd would then be able to decide if she wants to become an X-Men recruit or simply learn how to control her abilities. Either way, Sydney and David would be on course to meet once again.

Whatever happens, Noah Hawley and Marvel should seriously consider rebooting Legion to create an X-Men centric series for the near future. A soft reboot of the FX series would also fit perfectly alongside the Disney Plus landscape, especially since Disney/Marvel have yet to lay any sort of groundwork for mutants in the MCU.
