Fear The Walking Dead: Five characters we miss the most in Season 5
By Paul Zuniga
The past few seasons of Fear The Walking Dead have seen several fan-favorite characters bite the dust, and while it was sad to see them go, they haven’t been forgotten. Find out which characters we miss the most in our list below.
When it comes to either Walking Dead or its’ companion series Fear The Walking Dead, deaths are assured. The show is set in a post-apocalyptic landscape so you have to expect there to be casualties each season. Fear started off with a smaller group of main characters so deaths were usually relegated to ancillary characters but that’s changed since season three.
During that time, the entire Clarke family has been dissolved and several fan-favorites have met untimely demises. These deaths wouldn’t be especially important in most cases but they’ve created a divisive split among the show’s target audience. Some are ditching the show entirely while others are sticking by it, even if the main cast has changed significantly.
Regardless, the deaths we’ve witnessed in the past three seasons have been difficult to handle. In lieu of that, we’ve compiled together a list of the characters we miss the most in season five. You can check it out below.
5. Nick Clarke
Probably the most unexpected death out of Season Four had to be Nick Clarke (Frank Dillane). He survived just about every zombie the undead world could throw at him but he wasn’t prepared for Charlie (Alexa Nisenson) to shoot him in the chest.
The event itself shocked fans as no one saw the hit coming. Nick’s fight with Ennis (Evan Gamble) gave the young Charlie a reason to go after him but no one ever expected Charlie to shoot him in the chest over Ennis’ murder. We should mention that Ennis’ former ward had no idea what transpired between him and Nick. She didn’t see the fight, she merely came across Ennis’ body after the act.
Despite all of that, even Nick was surprised because he felt like they’d bonded over their short stay together too. He gifted Charlie a book that struck a chord with the young girl, though it wasn’t enough to break through the negative influences imprinted on her by Ennis and Melvin.
4. Travis Manawa
Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) was technically part of the Clarke family but he had a family of his own too. They all made it out of Los Angeles alive, of course, that didn’t last too long. Soon after they leave the city, Travis begins noticing his son’s difficulty coping with the new world. Chris found his own way to survive but the world was turning him into a psychopath — that is assuming he wasn’t one before the apocalypse hit.
While it has been some time since Travis passed, he hasn’t been forgotten. The elder Manawa played a major role in getting the Clarkes to a safe zone away from the zombie apocalypse and his contributions paid off in the end. Had it not been for his contributions to their group, Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) wouldn’t be here today.
3. Jim Brauer
Jimbo wasn’t around long but fans learned to love him during his short time on Fear The Walking Dead.
In that time, Jimbo (Aaron Stanford) went from being this selfish guy to becoming a decent human being. That fact became clear when Jimbo decided to sacrifice himself to save his friends. Jim had already been bitten at that point but he didn’t have to suicide dive into a car. The only reason he did was that his friends needed a distraction, and it ultimately worked in the end.
The sad thing is that Jimbo had prospects ahead of him. He didn’t have anyone special in his life but he was going to resurrect the Old World by bringing beer back. Jim had a brewery and all the knowhow necessary to make that dream a reality, he just didn’t have the time.
The silver lining to Jimbo’s story is that Sarah (Mo Collins) and Wendell (Daryl Mitchell) have kept his dream alive. They didn’t intend to be but their pursuit of brewing like Jimbo has ensured his legacy lives on.
2. Madison Clarke
Probably the most missed character on Fear The Walking Dead has to be Madison Clarke (Kim Dickens). Her departure from the show saw so much backlash from fans who couldn’t process the shocking nature of her death. There was nothing inherently wrong with Madison being written out, it just wasn’t what audiences wanted to see.
Regardless of how you feel about Madison as a character, she was too integral to lose. She’d been around since the beginning and killing her off was equal to writing Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) out of The Walking Dead. That move was widely criticized as it deviated from the comics in a huge way — the same can be said for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) leaving.
As for Madison, it did seem like her time came too soon. Some will argue that Madison’s journey was coming to an end so her daughter could take the lead but there was much more for Madison to do. The group needed a strong leader before Morgan came along, and they still do to some extent. Morgan has filled the void in her stead but Madison’s leadership is what kept the Clarke family fighting for three seasons. Hopefully, Morgan can embody more of those same characteristics because Madison isn’t coming back.
1. Qaletaqa Walker
Taqa is the only character on this list who is lost but isn’t dead. It’s possible he could’ve died off-camera somewhere but odds are he’s being prepped for a return soon. Mind you that Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades) returned to Fear The Walking Dead after leaving for an entire season so Taqa could feasibly do the same.
Characters on The Walking Dead have also taken season-long hiatus in the past which means it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for Qaletaqa to make his return any day now. For all we know, he’s joined one of the survivors’ groups in the nearby area.
It’s also worth mentioning that the dam where Taqa was last seen isn’t far from their present location. Morgan and the others are currently near El Paso and the dam incident happened close to the Mexican border, leaving them in close proximity of one another. Of course, Taqa could’ve just as easily ventured into North America rather than staying on the border though it’s yet to be seen where he wound up.
