In the next episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, Mr. and Mrs. Waterford will deal with the repercussions of Serena inadvertently getting them captured by Canadian Police. How will the confrontation end?

After winding up captured by Canadian police in Season 3, Episode 11 of The Handmaid’s Tale, the Waterfords will be reunited in this week’s episode. They’ll be separated by a window of glass but both Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) and Fred (Joseph Fiennes) are going to be interrogated by the same Agents. Luke (O.T. Fagbenle) is also present for the interrogation though his purpose there is unclear — perhaps Serena is only cooperating on the condition that she gets to see Nicole again.

In the promo for episode twelve, Fred also seems to be working an angle of his own. A conversation he’s having with June’s ex-husband reveals that he’s trying to manipulate Luke’s opinion of her. Fred tells him that Gilead has changed her — which it has — though his efforts are presumably to create even more distance between them.

While fans have held out hope that June (Elisabeth Moss) will be reunited with Luke, any outside influence from Fred Waterford could easily derail those plans. June tears up any time she speaks with her ex-husband so one can only imagine the challenges they’ll face upon being reunited.

It is worth pointing out that June’s job in Gilead is far from over. Before she can leave and try to rebuild her life, June has to fix the humanitarian crisis within the country. She’s focused on freeing the children held captive so that’s her top priority at the moment.

Lastly, the promo depicts June holding a gun in preparation for something. How she intends to use the weapon is unclear but her actions with it need to be precise. The constant patrols of armed officers make her single pistol a very small danger, but if used correctly, June may get one step closer to rescuing the children she’s focused on.

Our guess is June will use the gun to coerce a high-ranking Commander into getting the kids across the border. Both Commander Winslow (Christopher Meloni) and Commander Waterford are both out of the picture, and Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) is going to be picked up by Gilead’s police force any day now so there’s no one with any pull left — that is unless June is familiar with another Commander who can lend their assistance.

Whatever the case may be, June is smart enough to use that pistol at the perfect moment. She could use it in a coercion tactic, as a distraction, or possibly as a bargaining chip. Since Gilead controls what people are allowed to possess, an unlisted pistol would definitely be useful to someone in the seedy underground. Who knows, June might offer it up in exchange for a ride on that cargo plane.
