What does the Runaways crossover mean for the future of Marvel’s Cloak And Dagger

The excitement surrounding Cloak And Dagger’s upcoming crossover with Marvel’s Runaways has fans on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting to see how these two teams of superheroes will run into each other. Though the more important aspect is what happens to Cloak And Dagger’s separate storyline.

Now that we know Marvel’s Cloak And Dagger will lend some of its characters to Hulu’s Runaways series, it’s likely a good indication of the C&D story continuing. Fans have been left without an answer to the question of whether or not a season renewal is in the cards but there’s hope yet.

Since Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) are making a trip into the Runaways’ world, it goes to reason that they’ll be on a mission of their own when they encounter the Pride kids. How their meeting will go is unclear but the mere notion of Tandy and Ty on a new adventure confirms they’ll return in a story of their own, which also suggests the third season of Marvel’s Cloak And Dagger is in development.

It’s also worth mentioning that the coming crossover is just for a single episode. Readers have been led to believe that these superhero worlds are going to collide for a permanent union, though the one episode note means Tandy and Ty will meet the Runaways briefly and then return to their own respective story.

There’s a small chance Runaways Season 3 will surprise us with additional cameos from Tandy and Tyrone but odds are they’ll show up in Los Angeles and coincidentally run into the Pride kids for a one-time thing.

Crossovers aside, Tandy and Tyrone’s solo adventure is the thing we’re most concerned with. Freeform hasn’t announced any sort of renewal for Cloak And Dagger yet but it’s safe to assume that announcement will come within the next few days.

There is one thing we should point out before jumping to the conclusion that Freeform intends to renew Cloak And Dagger for a junior season. What that is, is the possibility that the network has opted not to renew the Marvel series. But if that’s the case, why is Cloak And Dagger’s story still going? The answer — the answer is simple.

Assuming Freeform has dropped C&D, that would mean another network — or streaming service — has acquired the series for new episodes. And if we look at Cloak and Dagger’s appearance on a Hulu Original, that’s likely a good indication of a new partnership being forged. Because of that, Tandy and Ty could be making the move to Hulu a permanent one.
