There’s more Riverdale casting news to share!
Supergirl’s Sam Witwer is joining the cast of Riverdale season 4, according to a report from ComicBook.com.
As you know, Jughead is going to a prestigious Prep school for senior year, and that’s where fans will meet Witwer. In the season, Witwer will play Mr. Chipping, a creative writing teacher, according to the report. Like everyone associated with Riverdale, Mr. Chipping will have something off about him, a darkness, according to the report.
Here’s the official description of Mr. Chipping, via ComicBook.com:
"“Handsome, bookish and cool, Mr. Chipping teaches creative writing at a prestigious prep school near Riverdale. He recruits Jughead for his seminar, and while he’s eminently inspiring to his students, there’s a darkness hidden far beneath the surface…”"
At SDCC, Cole Sprouse, who stars as Jughead, revealed that the setting for the spring break flash-froward from the season 3 finale is this new Prep school that Jughead will be attending. That’s really interesting when combined with this casting news.
Based on what we know about that flash-forward scene, I have a feeling that Mr. Chipping might be involved. It’s impossible to predict how much of a role he’ll have, but that’s the vibe I get from this announcement.
This is an awesome casting choice for Riverdale season 4. I really enjoyed Witwer’s role in Supergirl. I have a feeling he’s going to bring something new to the table in the next season of everyone’s favorite teen drama.
Witwer is the latest to join the cast of season 4. We learned at San Diego Comic-Con that Kerr Smith was taking over as Principal Honey at Riverdale High School. Principal Weatherbee disappeared with the rest of the Farmies at the end of season 3.
At SDCC, we also learned Shannen Doherty was joining the cast for the season premiere, which is titled “In Memoriam” and pays tribute to Luke Perry. Doherty and Perry starred alongside each other in Beverly Hills, 90210.
This is far from the last of the Riverdale season 4 casting news. I guarantee there are more big names coming to season 4, especially with Jughead going to a new school. They have to create this whole other high school setting. That means students, teachers, administration and more.
And, I’m sure there will be a few new friendly (and not-so-friendly) faces heading to Riverdale and Riverdale High in the next year.
Stay tuned for more news about season 4. We should be learning more and more about the new season over the next couple of months.
Season 4 premieres on The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
