Watch the trailer for Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Netflix original film The Irishman starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. The film hits Netflix this fall.
Netflix released the first trailer for their new original movie Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Al Pacino. This movie looks the amazing! From the first trailer, it has everything fans want in a Scorsese movie!
For those who don’t know, the film tells the story of hitman Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro), known as “The Irishman,” and his “relationship” with Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino), a union leader who mysteriously disappeared in 1975, according to Netflix.
The movie is based on the biographical novel I Heart You Paint Houses written by Charles Brandt. It has been adapted for the screen by Steven Zaillian.
Scorsese directed the film, which is scheduled to be released on Netflix later this year. The streaming network has not revealed the release date yet.
We shared the official synopsis for the film below, via Netflix:
"Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th Century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics."
Earlier this year, Netflix confirmed the film will get a theatrical run before it hits Netflix. It was recently announced that The Irishman will premiere at the New York Film Festival on Sept. 27, 2019, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
This film, which figures to be an Oscar favorite, has an excellent cast. In addition to De Niro, Pacino and Pesci, Anna Paquin, Bobby Cannavale, Ray Romano, Harvey Keitel, Jesse Plemons, Sebastian Maniscalco and more also star in the film.

The Irishman has been on the radar as the next (or first!) big Netflix movie. The streaming network has invested heavily in their original movies in the last few years, and we’ve already seen big-budget movies like Bright and Bird Box do well on Netflix.
The Irishman is in a whole different category, though. Netflix has worked with great creators and directors, but Scorsese is basically a god among filmmakers, and The Irishman is of the genre he does best: gangster/crime family movies.
I know there’s a lot of stigma with Netflix movies and the Oscars, but this movie clearly has potential to win Best Picture. I don’t really care about awards, so it matters not, really, if Netflix is nominated for the award. As a Scorsese fan, I’m just super excited to see this movie! It looks like everything I hoped it would be when I first heard about the news.
As mentioned, we don’t know when exactly to expect The Irishman on Netflix. It will premiere at NYFF in September, and then I’m sure it will be released in theaters in October or November. It should be released on Netflix shortly after that.
With many Netflix original Oscar contenders, the streaming network releases them at the end of October or beginning-to-mid November. They are added to Netflix shortly after that, although Roma was not added to the streaming service until December. We should see The Irishman before that time this year.
We’ll let you know more about the film when we find out! Stay tuned for more news about what will be Netflix’s biggest movie of the year, and probably all time!
