“Crisis on Infinite Earth,” the upcoming Arrowverse crossover, and its events will last throughout The Flash season 6, according to new showrunner Eric Wallace.

Team Flash shared a ton of new information about The Flash season 6 at San Diego Comic-Con and revealed the first look at the new season and the new villain, Bloodwork.

Another topic of conversation at SDCC about The Flash season 6 was, of course, “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” the upcoming Arrowverse crossover. During a press roundtable at SDCC, new showrunner Eric Wallace discussed the buildup to “Crisis” and what it will mean for Team Flash in Central City.

“‘Crisis’ is not separate from any story throughout the entire 22 episodes. Even after ‘Crisis,’ the fallout from it continues to build,” said Wallace.

That might be a little bit different from the other crossovers they’ve done so far. Yes, there have been consequences that have impacted the shows, and in this interconnected world of heroes, their decisions in their respective shows have changed timelines and events in other parts of this world.

The stakes have never been as high as they are right now, especially with Arrow ending after season 8. It’s truly the end of an era in the Arrowverse, and there are so many ways these creative teams can choose to proceed.

For Team Flash, though, this tidbit of knowledge is very interesting. We’ll start out with Team Flash in season 6 seconds after Iris and Barry’s daughter, Nora, just died, according to EW. That’s a very interesting place to start, and I think it will likely set the tone for the whole season.

Wallace also teased the new villain – or should we say “villains?” – for season 6 and how it all connects to “Crisis.”

“But in the first three ‘Crisis’ episodes as the Big Bad is getting introduced, like we always do and all that stuff, we will see a relationship between what’s coming in crisis with what’s happening to Barry, and with what’s happening with the new Big Bad there is related,” Wallace added. “Once we reveal the new Big Bad, especially once we get into around episode 3, 4, 5, you will understand exactly why this Big Bad was chosen. That’s very specific, and only could have been chosen in this year of ‘Crisis’ because dread is hanging over all of Team Flash, dread, sorrow, the potential loss of not just your loved ones, but the entire world.”

Heading into season 6, this season feels a little more somber and darker than other seasons, even after all that’s happened on this show and in the greater Arrowverse. And, I think Wallace just confirmed why.

This season will most definitely not be for the faint of heart. Our heroes will be tested. Team Flash will be tested like never before, and again, that’s saying something based on what he has been through. I think it’s safe to say nothing will be the same after “Crisis,” and I don’t know how much I like that. I’m scared for these characters!

Interestingly enough, there will be a second Big Bad in The Flash season 6, according to a report from ComicBook.com. Again, we learned about the new villain Bloodwork will be making an appearance, but it sounds like that story could be wrapped up before “Crisis,” according to report.

After that, there will be a new Big Bad for Team Flash to defeat, and as Wallace mentioned, they’ll also be dealing with the fallout from “Crisis.”

Why can’t it be October already? The Flash season 6 is still a few months away. After this amazing weekend for Flash news at SDCC, I’m more excited to watch this season than any season leading up to this point, and you should be, too!

The Flash season 6 premieres on The CW on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The full season will be added to Netflix US next spring.
