Army of the Dead: Dave Bautista shares first look at Zack Snyder’s Netflix movie
Your first look at Zack Snyder’s Netflix original film Army of the Dead is here! Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista shared the image on Twitter over SDCC weekend.
While Zack Snyder (300, Man of Steel) and the cast of the upcoming Netflix original Army of the Dead were not in attendance at SDCC this past weekend, that did not stop star Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Blade Runner 2049) from releasing the image from Snyder’s highly anticipated return to horror, according to a report from We Got This Covered.
For those who don’t know, the series follows a group of mercenaries plotting a heist in Las Vegas during a Zombie outbreak. Currently, it is unclear how much of Snyder’s and Harold’s original Army of the Dead script remains, but it is worth noting that the original script did feature Las Vegas.
According to a report from ComicBook.com, filming began on the $90 million action horror film on July 15. Production is underway in New Mexico, although the film is set in Las Vegas.
Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Garret Dillahunt, Ana de la Reguera, Chris D’Elia, Theo Rossi, Hiroyuki Sanada, Omari Hardwick, Nora Arnezedar, Raul Castillo Humo Qureshi, Matthias Schweighoder, Rich Cetrone, and Samantha Jo.
We shared Bautista’s tweet and image of the incredible cast below.
Snyder first broke onto the horror scene back in 2004 with the remake of George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. At that time, Army of the Dead was intended to be a sequel to the hit remake, with Snyder producing and co-writing the script with Joby Harold, and Matthijs Van Heijningen JR. (The Thing 2011) set to direct. After lying dormant for fourteen years, Netflix announced in January that the script had been resurrected with Snyder now set to direct.
Over the years, with his contributions to the DC Film Universe, Snyder has developed a dedicated following. His removal during postproduction of the Justice League made waves on social media and various news sites back in 2017. Since his departure, Snyder’s fans have continued to support his vision of the film with #ReleaseTheSnyderCut frequently trending on twitter, and with a crowd-funded billboard campaign at SDCC over the weekend.
With Snyder’s devoted fan base, and a horror starved Netflix subscriber-base, Army of the Dead could be a perfect storm of success for both Snyder and Netflix. Continue to check back here for release date news, trailers, and updates as they become available.
According to the We Got This Covered report, the film is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2020.
