Going into San Diego Comic-Con 2019, fans had no idea how Fox and the Family Guy crew would outdo past years’ presentations. Fortunately, audiences in attendance were privy to the performance of a lifetime.

When San Diego Comic-Con kicked off its’ panel for Family Guy, fans were anticipating a humorous exchange between Seth MacFarlane and the rest of Fox’s cast as usual. What they weren’t expecting was a Grammy-award worthy performance by Mike Henry and Alex Borstein.

For those unfamiliar with these names, Borstein has provided the voice for Lois Griffin on Family Guy since the beginning and Henry has lent his talents to multiple characters including the perverted Herbert during his illustrious career. These characters are important because Borstein and Henry decided to bring Lois and Herbert directly to audiences in attendance of SDCC 2019.

What the pair did is they got up on stage and began singing an impromptu parody of the titular song made popular by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in 2018’s A Star Is Born. Borstein and Henry just did so as Lois and Herbert, respectively.

No one was surprised by the chemistry that Borstein and Henry shared considering their many years working together, but the two gave Cooper and Gaga a run for their money as singers. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were applauded earlier this year for their performance of “Shallow” at the Oscars, though it seems they’ve been bested by Alex Borstein and Mike Henry.

Anyone who doubts the prowess of either Henry or Borstein can look at their list of accomplishments and judge them based on those merits. To list just a few, Borstein was recently in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel while Henry has voiced Cleveland Brown and many more notable animated characters over the past twenty years.

As far as their performance goes, Mike Henry and Alex Borstein could easily win an award for their duet of “Shallow” at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. It’s unclear whether or not it was rehearsed but Borstein and Henry gave us quite the surprise with their performance nonetheless. Check out a few snippets of the song below.

Hopefully, the shoddy camera work didn’t diminish the quality of the song because Henry and Borstein were amazing in person. Personally, we think they need to go on tour together. Their acting and voice-acting careers are far from over but neither should rule out a professional career as singers.

All things considered, Borstein and Henry’s performance of “Shallow” was also the best part of the panel. Seth MacFarlane and the crew each made an impression in their own way, but it was Alex Borstein and Mike Henry who stole the show in the end.
