Secret Obsession trailer released: Netflix given the plot away?
Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming thriller Secret Obsession. Has the streaming service given the whole plot away, though?
Secret Obsession is one of the July movies you won’t want to miss on Netflix. Starring Brenda Song and Mike Vogel, it promised to be a movie that kept you on your toes. That was until recently with the newly released trailer.
At first, we were all excited about the trailer for Secret Obsession. It was meant to tease us into the movie. But it seems to have given away the whole plot. In fact, it’s even confirmed the cliché plot twist within the movie.
Before I move on, I’m going to give you a chance to watch the trailer for yourself. However, I will say if you don’t want to go into Secret Obsession spoiled, then I’d recommend skipping the trailer and just waiting for the movie’s release!
See what I mean? We start off with a look at what the initial teasery synopsis told us. Brenda Song’s Jennifer loses her memory in an accident and that leads to her finding herself in a dangerous situation. A man shows up and claims to be her husband, but is he really?
That was supposed to be the twist, right? Well, at least, that’s what it seemed until the trailer. Netflix gives us the answer to that twist. Mike Vogel’s character is definitely not Jennifer’s husband. He’s a man obsessed with Jennifer and takes her to a secluded house for “recovery.”
So, what is the thriller part of the movie? What will the mysteries be to solve? The recent Netflix synopsis may give us a clue.
"Newlywed Jennifer (Brenda Song) is brutally attacked at a dark rest stop. While healing from her injuries, she can’t recall anything from her past, including the ordeal. Her husband, Russell (Mike Vogel), is just thankful she’s alive and eager to get her home. As he reintroduces her to their secluded mountain estate, Detective Page (Dennis Haysbert) pursues Jennifer’s assailant — his own daughter went missing and was never found. The same fate now awaits Jennifer, unless someone realizes that her loving caretaker is actually her captor."
Is it possible that Detective Page’s daughter is still alive or will he find out what happened to his daughter while saving Jennifer? Are the two cases related?
We could also see Jennifer get her memory back. After all, there’s a huge question about where her real husband is. Was he killed in the attack? Maybe he has lost his memory somewhere or has been abducted and held somewhere else.
Right now, it looks like the biggest twist is given away, but in a way, it’s possibly a good thing. It is a cliché twist, a trope used so much that it could have been boring. Now we’re left wondering what the movie is really going to be about?
Will you check out Secret Obsession on Netflix? It arrives on July 18.
