New details for Castle Rock Season 2 released; cast, plot line, and more
By Paul Zuniga
With a new story being developed for Castle Rock’s sophomore season, it needs a new cast. Check out new details about recent cast additions and more below.
For those who don’t know, Castle Rock Season 2 is making a departure from last season’s narrative which centered around Henry Deaver (Andre Holland) and The Kid (Bill Skarsgard) and their battle for a better life. It ended with Henry sending the latter back to his cell, though it seemed to be somewhat of an open-ending.
Regardless, season one’s plot won’t factor into the next season seeing as how Season 2 will focus on Annie Wilkes (Lizzy Caplan) being waylaid in the town of Castle Rock. She’ll come to this crossroad just as two rival gangs reach a boiling point in their feud.
As far as the gangs go, the main one will be led by Reginald Merrill (Tim Robbins) as he contemplates handing over the family business to a worthy successor. Reginald “Pop” Merrill has two sons who can fill the void left in his absence, though Ace (Garrett Hedlund) seems to be the frontrunner. Chris (Matthew Alan) also has a chance but odds are he’ll be passed up for his brother.
What’s more interesting is the rival gang that’ll create further problems for Merrill’s family. A specific antagonist hasn’t been named and the cast listed so far doesn’t provide us with any more information.
Speaking of cast, Castle Rock Season 2 will also be adding some new faces to the story. The new cast additions are comprised of Robin Weigert, Alison Wright, Sarah Gadon, and Greg Grunberg. Fortunately, character details were also released alongside the cast announcement.

Weigert’s character is of most interest since she’s playing Crysilda Wilkes, Annie’s mother. Her exact role is unknown, though it seems like the entire Wilkes family will have some role to play. Joy Wilkes (Elsie Fisher) being present is more proof of the Wilkes’ prominent role in the upcoming season — Joy is Annie Wilkes’ daughter.
Sarah Gadon is another cast member worth paying attention to. Gadon is playing Rita Green, a character who’s described only as a vengeful woman from Annie’s past. That could mean any number of things but our guess is Rita could be seeking revenge for one of the people who Annie Wilkes murdering during her time as a nurse.
As for the remaining two new cast members, Alison Wright will be playing a local who explores the town of Castle Rock’s dark secrets. She’ll presumably take up a role similar to Jane Levy’s Jackie Torrance. And Greg Grunberg will portray Sheriff Broucher, an officer who winds up fighting the dark forces within the town. Broucher also seems to be modeled after Sheriff Pangborn (Scott Glenn) from Season One.
