Can you believe that 10 years have gone by since The Hangover was released and changed the shape of comedy in the big screen as we know it? The film not only launched its stars into official movie star status, but it made a marked influence on the future of R-rated comedies. After The Hangover, they came back in a big way and inspired a number of hilarious movies that also revolutionized the genre. To celebrate, The Hangover comes to Netflix this July.

The Hangover follows a group of friends setting out to Las Vegas for a wild bachelor party two nights before Doug’s (Justin Bartha) wedding. However, when Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), and Alan (Zach Galafianakis) wake up without a memory from the night before and without a trace of Doug, they must piece together what happened so they can track down Doug and get him back to Los Angeles in time for his wedding.

Upon release, The Hangover enjoyed positive reviews from critics and even better word of mouth, making it a surprise sleeper hit. The film grossed $467.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $35 million. That combined with the film’s Golden Globe win paved the way for a trilogy, though neither Part II or Part III would match the acclaim or success of the original. While the whole trilogy won’t be available, you can catch the modern comedy classic when it streams on Netflix in observance of its 10th anniversary at the top of the month.
